Is that the Gammatronix one from the UK Cods? Got one on my custom dash and has already saved me from one failed R/R  :thumb:
As a matter of fact it is :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

BrianRC came over and we put the Motad exhaust on the ex500. Now able to put a center stand back on. Last week we installed engine bars.

Brian did more work on the POS called a 1971 TS-185. made a list of parts needed to make it come back to life.

nice work there guys!!  :thumb:

reckon you gonna need one of these machines to make the TS live though  ;) ;) ;)  :thumb:

Brian has named the bike "Scutter". (Bonus points to anyone who knows where that name comes from.)
It is just so cool to hang out, have some beers, and work on all these projects.

There's a new Yamaha at the Bike Cave. Olly bought it and just sold his green Ninja 250. already, fender replacement and new horn. Tomorrow we put on frame sliders.

The Bike Cave is a pretty busy place.

a scutter (if you're from England) is someone who doesn't wash, has no job but sits on their stale asre watching trisher/kilroy all morning. They usually sport an huge collection of gold jewellery (purchased from Argos) and call their children- babby as apposed to baby.

Good stuff, here's mine in the custom dash, and I have a push button momentary switch under the left side of the dash so I can give it a flick and check the battery voltage as well  :thumb:

Yes - Red Dwarf. I suggested "Smeg" but "Scutter" it is.

Went to check the floats to make sure that wasn't the reason my bike was running badly. Floats are spot on, but this came out of the float bowls....

It's a pretty significant ratio of "stuff" to gasoline. I'm hoping it's just dirty water from a bad batch of fuel and/or being left outside for a long period of time, but at the very least I'll be draining the tank and cleaning the carbs.

Put the K&N drop in ... In ... Is the restrict or just supposed to sit there? ... Don't think it will pop out .. But it's not exactly tight! ...

Put my new Bull-It jeans on ... Went for a 25km round trip 'to the shops' ... Nice cool evening air! ..

.. No massive change in bike ... Slightly more 'growl' on decel from the airbox .. I think... Nice sharp throttle response ... Though I'm really putting that down to having a clean new filter rather than the 'K&N' effect , plus the cool air ... Twisted the wrist a bit on the freeway run .. Which has some swoopy turns and hills ....'Scsccccccssscscscscscsccscs' (Ernie laugh noise) ... Best half hour of fun I've had this week!  :D :thumb:

Cooling off a good bit, so took the bike to work this morning.  As it was warming up, I noticed an unusual knocking sound.  Video below.  Off some searching, it looks to be normal camshaft knocking?

Watevaman

Sounds like the usual camshaft knocking. Mine does pretty much the same thing and has for the past 7k miles.
Bike: 1990 GS500E (Vance & Hines full system, K&N Lunchbox, BM Clubmaster bars, Katana rear shock, 0.90 Sonic Springs), 2000 ZRX1100 (Kerker slip-on)
Location: Virginia

Is it worth shimming the camshaft? Any ideas on this? shim it out to minimal endfloat?
Beam me up Scottie....

I'm running the K&N drop-in without the restrictor.  I've got the rejet almost perfect now (just have to fine-tune the mixture screws).  Can't compare to with the restrictor or stock filter with proper rejet.  But compared to stock it's got a hell of a lot more pull across the whole range with more of a growl when rolling on the throttle.
2009 GS500F
K&N Drop-in - no restrictor
Vance & Hines can on swedged stock headers
HID projector
Balu-Racing undertail
Flush-mount turn signals
Blue underglow
Twin-tone air horn
22.5/62.5/147.5 Jets 1 washer 3.5 turns

First, you don't know for sure if it is cam shaft knocking.
Only older bikes have that problem. Somewhere along the line Suzuki added spring shim washers to eliminate it.
You should determine the source (i.e. location) if the knocking before tearing into things.
It could be valves, counter balance, cracked cam journals or a host of other things.
Determine what the problem is before randomly doing  things which may only make things worse.

im not going to mess with re-jet for (quite) a bit... till i read the book on carbs and understand the concepts better...

... one thing though... and im not sure even what this is...

riding last couple evenings ... wind on medium to heavy throttle on freeway onramp .. or passing maneuver .. then .... as i either back off the throttle OR change gears and moderate throttle again ... theres just a 'slight' surge kinda thing... no bangs or backfires .. no interruption to usable power ... but .. ummm ... just like if you were push starting a car .. and everyone gives it that last extra little shove .. or a different and more accurate description .. like half a second lag on roll off throttle?!

i didnt notice this before with stock filter ... and maybe i just didnt notice it?... i really dont know if its a K&N effect .. clean filter effect ... lean/rich now effect .. or what the heck?!

anyone?... anyone?
