Did you go the Michelin Road 2's?

Tune up day!
Oil and filter changed, air filter changed, chain and cables cleaned, lubed, and adjusted, plugs gapped, and my little buddy even got a shower
Brake fluid was a little darkish, but not too bad. I'll bleed them next day off work.
Started up beautifully, until a waterfall of oil poured onto the garage floor....
I had forgot to put in the new filter-cover gasket  :nono:
...
After clean-up, etc, i went for a toodle aboot the NW on what felt like a brand new bike, and headed home.
Thanks for getting me home safe as always Little Buddy  :thumb:

Pilot Road 2, yep. Got it from Two Wheel Tyres out at Blacksoil - behind the inbound BP. $40 cheaper than the discounted price from Pro at Ippy. So now I have Pilot Road 2 on both front and back  :thumb:

Pilot Road 3 is now out. Has small thin lines across the face of the tire. Supposed to help with water removal  :dunno_black:

finally pulled my finger out and found the Allen keys , removed the right rearset and adjusted the dang rear brake light switch so it works consistently ... In preparation for the p plate test next Fri .. The man at the place said they would check the correct function of all lights etc... Which is fair enough i reckon  :thumb:

Sick but I was bored and wanted some fresh air.

Cleaned, Sanded, etc etc my exhaust pipe, then painted it with the proper paint.

all by hand, ugh I need to buy a power drill so I coulda used an attachment on that!
Luckily it was mostly only discolored and not as rusty as it appeared to be.

Eating chinese now waitin for it to dry fully.

Hope the damm deliveries come soon, didnt appear to be any gaskets in the headers in the pipes or motor side.... odd
Good thing I already ordered new ones a few days ago because I planned on painting them.

Lookin good but sry, broke my camera and didnt hunt down my web cam to hook up to my laptop to take out to it.

I've ridden the VStar Classic 650 and... it vibrated like hell in all gears all the time. Doing a Uturn the handlebars pumped into my knees. And it was gutless. More gutless than the GS. Changing down gears did nothing to give me greater acceleration. And after a few minutes my back started hurting. Maybe the gutlessness and extreme vibration was just this bike cause other people tell me different. But the comfort issue cannot be changed. Apart from that, it handled well.

well for me the difference is night and day.  100% better on the vstar overt the gs.  My bike has no noticable vibrations and has more power then the gs.  I have put 300 miles on the vstar in 2 days while i put 300 miles on the gs in the last 2 yrs because i couldnt ride the gs do to the fact that after 30 miles both of my arms would go numb and hurt.(i have bad shoulders)  I am getting ready to head out in the next half hour for a day long ride.

I really like the style of the cruisers, but I'm not used to the riding position...I test rode the Suzuki M50 (really liked the looks and sound of the bike) but the riding position started to get uncomfortable for me in about 10mins...I'm sure if I had bought one, I would get used to it soon enough...from what I have read about the Star 650 (I sat on the Star 950, but not the 650...but I think they are quite similar), the power should be similar to the GS...a little less top end, but more torque for the bottom end...but if you're not racing around, it shouldn't make any difference anyway...

As for the vibration...they are power pulses, not vibrations...my new bike "vibrates" way more than my GS ever did, but my hand used to go numb on the GS and never seems to on the new bike...??...power pulses vs harmonic vibrations...plus on the cruiser you are sitting more upright than on the GS, so no weight on your wrists (shoulders)...so better for his situation...

Anyway, my two cents...nice new toy  :thumb: ...CONGRATS!!

Later.

exactly right my father in law and myself put 200 miles on today just a nice little ride.  170 miles more then i could do on the gs with absolutely no problems at all.  i am now even more in love with this bike then before.

Mad: This "get used to it" is a load of sales BS. If your back is aching there is no "getting used to it". It means the riding position is wrong For You and your biomechanics. A guy I know has a C50 and he Thought he'd get used to it too. Nope. Had to buy a backrest for the rider's seat to stop the back aches. While others I know with the same bike think they are comfy as.

The 650 didn't have power pulses, it had obnoxious vibrations. As I said, others find the bike smooth and has enough grunt but I found it hardly rideable and gutless - hence, probably something wrong with the bike. Typical Vtwin vibes are manageable. The 650 I rode was a heap of junk, end of story. Maybe a different bike of the same make/model would be fine. But of the three Yamaha cruisers I've ridden I've developed backache within 10 minutes on each of them. After 30 minutes on a Triumph America, no sore back at all. After 25 minutes on a Honda Shadow 750s, no sore back. Yamah is a no-go make for me in cruisers, it seems.

Today I put the rear HEL stainless brake line on, when I put the front on it turned into a two day job, so I never bothered to do the rear. Today was much better, but it was a bit more of a pain than it should have been because I only have deep sockets, and I couldn't get the socket and ratchet on the brake line bolt because of the exhaust. Thankfully the HEL kit uses 9/16 bolts, so I could use a wrench to tighten it.

I really need to get more tools.

I also tried to swap the clutch lever, but I couldn't figure out how to get the old one off. I got the bolt undone pretty easy, but I couldn't get the cable to loosen enough to pull it out. Maybe next weekend, when I do the fuel lines, and attempt to try the R6 shock.

Pic's later, now it's time to go for a ride  :D

Cleaned and adjusted the chain, then rode it for 250 miles through the hills & twisties of Northern Cal.  Sunny and 75 degrees.  Hard to beat.  Maybe I should call in sick tomorrow and ride another 250 miles.....

(re)-Painted some body work for my ongoing project, have a few more mistakes to work out.  Man I wish i could get good at painting because there are just so many possibilites with that - I just need more practice I think.

Took the exhaust off again, made sure there was no blockage or problems causing my recent crap.

meanwhile Motorcycle Santa Claus came! (mailman!)
Expected some of the OEM parts I ordered but received my new levers that I JUST bought off ebay on Saturday instead. (wow that was fast!)

(sorry camera broke so no photos for awhile on anything)

Front brake lever went on in 2 minutes.....

Clutch lever took Hours!..... (mostly travel time to salvage yard  etc etc)
Bolt holding the lever on wouldnt loosen (bolts on each side were moving tho)
I ended up breaking the O mount part that slides on the handlebars....
Off to the salvage yard!
Got the replacement, stopped at the gf's and picked up my summer riding jacket.
Installation was fine, til I snapped the bolt to tighten the O part on the handlebars.....
Came out fine, had something else to fit for now.
all got on ok....

ugh what a pain in the *@&@#&*@$
