Well, Adidas I bought that same package that you did for Flick it just finished in august. I should probably go back through his 'er medical records and see if the valves have been checked and or adjusted.

I know when my neighbor knocked Flick over if I would have had to pay for every thing from the dealer it would have been a pretty penny too. Broken brake lever, new fairing, decals, mirror, scratched muffler, broken turn signal. Here is what it looks like!

And that was a simple bump my neighbor did pick my bike up and put the mirror on my gas tank considerate aren't they. a name and number would have been better!
If I had the extra money yup I'd have the "bump protectors"

Ouch! Those photos belong in the Tard section. They're just too gross for this area.

Today, Rio got a good cleaning and then went to the show at the North Atlanta Tade Center.

You wanna see my aerodynamic Flaw? I'm gonna go post it in the Tard section. Yeah, according to my dealer (and yes I trust them) the valve check was done about 4,000 miles ago.

Suzi came back from her 4000 mile tune up. New oil, plugs, K&N air filter, brakes everything else changed & in spec. Valve adjustment: perfect, no adjustment required. She's home and happy (  thanks to centuryghost - the only other butt I have ever allowed on Suzi and she's a pretty strict girl).

Total cost: $0.00  :woohoo:

With labor costs up, good I pre-paid all service when I bought her. Also gets valve adjustment with each service whether required or not. Nice!

So.......what do they adjust the gaps to if no adjustment is needed?  :dunno_black:

RMC - yes.

What do they do if no adjustments needed? Well, they first have to open her up to find out that no adjustments are needed. They opened her up and checked the valves and everything was OK. If things were not OK, they would have changed the shims as required and done whatever necessary. And "whether required or not" is based on the service schedule. Even if not required by the service schedule, they check them to be sure everything is perfect. They go the extra mile to be sure Suzi is in the best condition possible.

So it gets an inspection..... not an adjustment......... and it gets one when it doesnt always  need it?

adidasguy

This topic is gertting rather lame and pointless.

1. You check the valves
2. You adjust IF NECESSARY

What more can you possibly not understand?

Today my bike got new LED blinkers and got the rear sets, top clamp, front brake res. cover and handlebars painted black (from red... ew) the new mirrors will be here on Monday, then shortly after that it gets new tank, seat, tail fairing and tail light, brake rotors and brake pads.

My bike has to be thanking me after being saved from the PO's ugly spray paint junk everywhere...

To avoid any further confusion can I suggest you get the dictionary out and identify the differences between the words`adjustment` and `inspection` :thumb:

As for being lame and pointless......Well I am not the one wasting money on valve checks/inspection/adjustments* (delete as applicable) when Suzuki themselves say they are not needed.

Fact is if I found myself having to make valve adjustments every 4k I would be thinking I must have got some big problem going on in the cylinder head or valve gear and would be looking for the root cause.

Still, I guess this is how dealers survive........Tell me you are not paying them to change the air in the tyres at the same time are you?  :D :D

adidasguy

You miss the while point. They service the bike. As a benefit of pre-paying the scheduled maintenance, they check the valves with each service. If they do need adjustments, they do it. Everything is paid and even air is free (yes, they did make sure tires were at proper pressure).

There is never anything wrong with checking the valves just in case there is a problem. It also gives them a chance to see if there are any other hidden problems inside the engine.

I am aware of the difference between "inspect" and "adjust". You "inspect" and if needed, then you "adjust".

and I still think this whole argument has gone on too long and is really lame. are you related to jb848?

Nothing like

Nope I am not related to jb848

.....Is he in the habit of paying dealers to carry out work that the manufacturers themselves say is not required too?  :D
