I replaced the valve cover gasket and the o-rings that sit under 4 of the bolts. One more thing to scratch off the far too long list of things that need to be done.

Did you repaint it, or just find a tank and covers from a purple bike.  If you did paint it, where did you get the decals from?

Those are the purple tanks & stuff I bought from another person here on the board. Looks better than I thought. Everyone seems to like it.
Better than that crappy Duc yellow it was painted before. I best not park next to a bunch of hog riders in their black leather. They might not appreciate a purple bike (or would they?)

Suzuki sure didn't make it easy to put fuel lines on the tank petcock - no clearance between the two lines. The old, stiff, crappy clear fuel lines had to be replaced.

I looked at it sitting in the garage with the carbs taken off waiting on jets to come   :(  get a lil sadder everytime someone rides by my house

Yea - it surprised me, too, as how great it looks. Those parts were in near perfect condition. Excellent job of storing them! Didn't even have to wash out the tank.

Really shows how important a garage is. The previous owner of the bike bought it new in 93, and left it parked inside. Last registration sticker was from 04, so it hadn't been run in a while. I pulled the plastics off, bubble wrapped them, boxed them, and put them away.

Surprising thing, is that the bike had been down at least twice. Best I can tell, the accidents didn't leave a scratch on the bodywork.

You're doing what I haven't been able to.  I want to rebuild my carbs, rewire the bike and service the top end, but that will mean time without a bike, and I'd rather be out on two wheels every day rather than being bikeless with my ride in bits.  I'd have to at least wait till I'd sourced the rebuild kits before I went and took my bike apart.

While I didn't do this today (last weekend actually), and it's not for the GS, I still did something with one of my bikes. I installed a new camera mount on the SV560 and went for a ride to check the placement and to see if there was any vibration. I purchased a second mount for the GS that should be in by the time I get back home next week. Here's the vid:

If they just fall then they tend to land on the engine covers and bar ends, but that's not to say you can't damage the tank.  I bought mine with a vertical groove all the way up the knee cutaway on the tank, it looks to have fallen against a pole and I haven't quite worked out how to pull it out.  Post 04 tanks turn up frequently on ebay, but I haven't seen an older one yet.

Anyone else got a pre '04 tank bubble wrapped in their garage?

Adidasguy has a few I bet. You could probably get some matching rear plastics too if you are nice to him. I think he has a set in Ducati yellow he just removed from his new bike.

Anyways the newer model tanks will fit your bike if you get a newer model seat I am pretty sure. If I am wrong someone will correct me.

Being that I have only had my bike now 3 weeks. I haven't did too many thing except ride it.

Removed some of the noob warning stickers.

I just received my metal tag yesterday so I put that on.

I bought a ZG touring style windscreen and installed it. I really wanted the double bubble because of the looks, but decided to go with usability & function over looks.

And lastly, I stuck a really cool KEITI TANK PROTECTOR in SUZUKI BLUE on. It matches the bike perfectly. O0

I do have to say I'm loving this bike. Out of the 2 other motorcycles I've had (Harley & Honda) I've never had as much fun as I do on this one. Maybe because it is my first new bike or maybe because it's a sports touring bike. Either way I truely love this scooter

I got my valves adjusted, first time since I got it.  It now has 27k miles.  It had 13k when I bought it.  The P.O. bought the bike with 10k miles and never had a valve adjustment.  The left intake and right exhaust valves were tight and had to go to the next size thinner shim.  The other two valves were in tolerance.  Something tells me Suzuki's recommendation of a 4,000-mile valve adjustment interval is throwing a bone to bike mechanics.  My bike mechanic agrees and he's been in business 35 years.  I think I will have them adjusted again at 40k miles.
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

Fed "the Little Guy" two tanks of gas today, applied some mud to the back end (snow run off, and some gravel roads... :icon_twisted:) and scuffed in the new rear tire...got 650kms (400miles) in...not so sure I really need to "upgrade", not this year anyway... :thumb:

Rebuilt the carb to clean out the rusty sediment in the bowls, also discovered the bracket on the bottom of my gas tank is missing a bolt.
