1994 GS500E w/ ~43,000 kms as of July 2012

Juan1

Done this weekend:
Replaced broken turn signals
Replaced bent handlebar
Replaced broken signal generator cover
Installed a center stand
Rejetted and reinstalled the carbs I cleaned last week
Adjusted Fuel/Air mixture
Fired her up and rode her for the first time since I bought her!

Still to do:
Replace all oil seals, she still quite a leaker.
1982 Kawi GPZ-750, 1998 GS500.

Tronspeed3

took her for a ride last night in the nice 50 degree weather! I let it warm up with the choke full on and rode it around town for probably 15 Min's with the choke on. Once I put the choke midway it started to die at every stop sign "embarrassing", rode it around for probably 45 Min's like that but it would not idle even when hot without the choke on.

Any suggestions?

Came home and discovered my horn hanging by its wires, so a new washer and but and a drop of loctite later and it's sweet again. While at it I gave the chain a thorough cleaning and lubrication, I hadn't done it for about 700k's. At least my adjustment was still bang on from my service so very happy with my new mechanic.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

codajastal

Unleashed a can of degreaser all over the frame and motor, washed it all off and re-lubed the chain so now its clean and lean  :D
Took it for a ride around town and put it back to bed till tomorrow.
I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Pulled my rear tire off due to a flat, which was thanks to a nail I caught the other day, only two find out there were 2 nails jammed through my tire! .... fuckers...

edit: on the plus side, I guess if you're gonna get two nails in your tire, it's better to do it at the same time, right??

in the state of Florida, if you hit a pothole. and your tire goes out. They pay for a new one. I don't know about nails. but yeah..

I started it and let it run for about 5 minutes. Hasn't been ridden for about a month. Love how she starts right up no problems.

Finally got it all back together and rode it to work.  :woohoo: I'll update my "winter project" thread tonight.

Rode it to work after two weeks of taking the car due to inclement weather. Felt good to get out on the road again.

Flick got oil and filter for his 500 mile break in after rebuild. Also, got some washers and plastic weld to fix the fastners to the bottom of the fairing!

The Flickster is running lean and mean! Already, got 750 miles on 'ole boy. Couldn't ask for better weather! This is when I love living and Florida!

Flick got his 500ish break in oil change today. Oil was pristine no metal filings! Oil looked great only thing though is when I bought the Fram oil filter the gasket doesn't really fit so I used the old one. Does anyone know a Fram oil filter CH6000 am I getting the wrong one  :dunno_black:.

Currently working on the fairing think I will take some pics and show the process on fixing the tabs.

The first and maybe 2nd Fram CH6000 filter I bought had the right o-ring.  Now, the last 4-5 I have bought don't fit.  So I've got several thousand miles on my current o-ring.

Quite a bit on Phenix. See the project section. Small heater the the bike cave took the chill off so I worked until after midnight. He has parts from 1989 through 2009. Due to the VIN number on the frame, we have to call Phenix a 1993.
Took Junior to Alki Beach. Sunny day so he HAD to go pose with all the other bikes.
Took Suzi to Aurora Suzuki to pick up grease for Phenix and half a dozen of the rubber cushions that go around the speedo and tach because Trey's are dry making the gauges rattle.

No go on nails. Road Hazard. You can pick up tire insurance but it is pretty much worthless.

Unbolt the nuts and take the gauges to Lowes or another homestore and buy some washers with an ID greater then those bolts. That is what I did with PITA when I had her... Basically just stacked them until the entire gauge was snug when bolted.

Nimus: You are thinking of the wrong part. Around the top of the gauges, there is a HUGE rubber ring where they go onto the metal bracket. When that is bad, gauges can rattle around in the bracket. I bet when you need more rubber washers on the back side, it is because this top ring is hard or squished down from age.

Guess I should have included a picture. Gauge with partly missing gasket or bumper or round squishy thingy and a new one in the package. One on the gauge is hard as a rock. New one is nice and squishy!

Man, PITA needs those bad!  Numus was talking about on the back side, where he put those washers.   :thumb:

The o rings on the front are shot, almost to the point where there aren't even rings on them.  I've had a terrible time trying to find some.  It sucks not having a Suzuki dealer around.    >:(

Also, Numus, I finally got PITA running!  Give me another few months to get her painted and you won't even recognize her anymore!   :woohoo:

Prices are $4.50-$5.50 depending on who.
Well worth replacing those hardened black rings. What a difference!
Loosen the gauges. Pull up a little. Remove old ring then slip the new one over from the front. Pretty simple.
