What have you done for your bike today????

Our ride got rained out. So we will try for Sunday to ride Vashon Island.

Instead of riding we wrenched. Junior got a tank protector. The CBR600 got a USB port to charge his phone (yes - we have an "associate" member of the GS500 Club.)

Went to Harbor Freight and picked up a rear stand for the CBR. Then the CBR got the chain cleaned & lubed and an R&G carbon fiber toe guard installed. We also repaired some of the plastics of the CBR with Plastex plastic repair.

I got it from here. It was a year ago and being a blond, I forget. Might have been pronator. Might have been someone else.

Now Ryan can charge his phone when riding. He needs to do that. Coming home from Backfire last Wednesday, he lost his bike lock cable on the freeway. I thought he went of with someone else when I lost him. His phone was dead so he couldn't call me to let me know what happened. Necessity is one reason we do things for our bikes. (The other reason is its just so much fun!)

Yeah I hear you, I've had a standard 12v mounted forever for my gps. But something messed up on it. I'm thinking about replacing it with a double usb outlet. I've had to unplug the gps in the past on long trips to charge my mp3 player.

I added white LED's under the fairings, front and rear. Added a toggle switch to turn them on at night. Gives it a nice glow.

Just make sure you're stationary when you flip it on. Don't want any issues from the PoPo.

finally installed the rear hugger I got from adidas, still needs a paint job.

Let the wife ride it. She's been learning to ride. She's doing great.
I think it's pretty much hers now. I'm hoping to pick up an SV sometime.

So, yesterday, a friend of mine and I changed the rear shock to one from an R6. We also changed the front springs to Sonic Springs .95, added 15W fork oil, and changed oil and dust seals.  It doesn't seem like much, but I was wiped yesterday and today I was sore.  I still have some adjusting to make on the rear shock, but in the short ride I took after we were done, the ride was much better.

My ride:
2009 GS500F stock....for now.

Actually I've thought about doing this myself, and as long as it's not a flashing (looks like an emergency type light) and it's not obnoxiously bright, there's nothing wrong with them since they're just decorative lighting which isn't illegal here (in Canada, btw).

What kind of lights did you use Myrtle? Pics would be appreciated!

Lets see...

Bike was wrecked and dropped a couple of times, so.

1.) Plastic fixed the cracked fairings
2.) Unbent the driver's pegs
3.) Fixed the seeping valve cover
4.) Did some minor chain maintenance (tightening and lube)
5.) Fixed the turn signal stalks in the front
6.) Replaced the left mirror
7.) Oil change
8.) Cleaned all the caked on crud from the bottom of the fairings that sit close to the road
9.) Changed the spark plugs
10.) Cleaned the carbs
11.) Fixed the bar ends
12.) Cleaned the bike, so it's shiney!  :)

and finally got around to installed the white gauge overlays from Ford.
Also painted the gauge frames Red.

I ordered some lights for the oil/brights/neutral lights.  Also got some Superbrightleds integrated tail/stop/license plate.  I left the turn signals stock.  Finally took some pictures:

Didn't mess with turn signals though. Those will be bone stock till they make a polarized T5 green LED.

BTW: Tombs, looks good pal!  Glad you are up and running again.

Spent about 7 hours wrenching on her today.. First time I've ever done anything mechanical in my life, but was lots of fun even when things went wrong :P

Started out as me just wanting to clean out the air filter, but then because me replacing the fuel lines with clear reddish ones since a couple developed splits in them. So I learned how to take the gas tank and fuel lines off. Also managed to figure out what was causing my idle to hang at 4k RPMs all the time.. The choke on the carbs itself would engage but get stuck and not disengage so I managed to get that unstuck and fixed.

At same time I found out that my idle adjustment screw was missing and found a temporary replacement one for it.

Did the shortening turn signal stalks on the back end. Much better looking now.

Shortly after that I figure out what my engine was so horribly loud.. the nuts that hold the exhaust onto the engine were barely in. Also discovered that my crank case cover(?) bolts were loose and was the cause of my slow leaking oil problem..

Lets just say shes running great now and today was a very large learning process for me. Was lots of fun :P

The things you found are exactly the reasons you should wrench on your own bike! .. You find simple fixes before things go awry, and you learn while you do it!  You find the small nuances of your own machine, and you are better for it.

Yes, they really are serious when they state in the manual to check engine bolts every xxxx miles :-}

Well sometimes you spot the issues before they become bigger issues, and sometimes you do just dig yourself in deeper, but yes you do eventually learn your way around your bike.  Eventually you get to a stage where you're pretty much on top of it.

My handlebar clamp bolts were hand tight when I put on my risers.   :o
