also side note what chain lube do you guys recommend?

I use Motul which is available at most decent bike shops.

I know quite a few people who recommend Silkolene/Fuchs. Will try it myself when I next need to buy some. Available from Supercheap Auto.
Wherever you may be, there you are.

Yes I recommend using chain lube!

Hrrrrm ... Adelaide.... So nothing too thin/wet so it flicks off in the heat of summer... All over the bike...

And nothing too thick and gluggy so it picks up all the fine red dirt grit...

...

Oh and apart from that I fitted the fuel lines up.. Was going to go a full 12" longer but ran into crimping problems with trying to fit lines in the space available... So I knocked it back to about 8" extra.... I've never had any complaints with that number before !  :D

You can run, but you'll only die tired.
If you hit it with a hammer and it doesn't fix it, you have an electrical problem

Aaaaah forgot I'm out of chain lube! Must get some of that ASAP...

New battery in yesterday morning, main jets dropped to 142.5's last night, and she now starts perfectly and throttle response is somewhat crisper... I've also wound the mixture screws in a quarter turn tonight so I'm at 2 1/2 turns... see how she rides tomorrow.

Wow.... That's really surprising! ... Cos I haven't so much as pulled a hose off my carbs.... And they still don't need to be fiddled with!  ;) :flipoff:

Yes yes.... I have the carb book... But I think that's going to be used for my spare engine and something

peteGS

Hahaha yeah yeah Janxy... but I'm betting you don't have K&N's, a nice custom 2 into 1 high pipe, shortened slide springs, and enlarged vacuum ports in the slides either right?  :flipoff:

New intake valve shims (finally), carb sync, and new oil. All that's left is to pull the battery and put it on the tender. Then I get to play new levers over the winter.

Rode Betty to work this morning for the first time ever. Actually, first street ride I've ever done past a few blocks. Put 18 miles on the odometer. Still have adrenaline going....

It's fun, isn't it? I didn't have the chance to putt around the neighborhood first on mine. I bought it off of the guy and had to ride it 15 miles home on the main drag. The first true ride does get the blood pumping.

I ride my bike to work everyday i can unless its storming then I take the car. Everyday I take the car though I miss the bike

Zookmang

Me too jimbob, it's just not the same on 4 wheels.

Well just cleaned and adjusted the chain which badly needed doing. It sucks how no matter how much crap you get off the chain that when you lube it back up afterwards then sprockets go black again. Used almost 3/4 a can of chain cleaner and multiple racks which are now black :P Took about couple of hours because i wanted to make sure each roller was free and could spin.
Do you guys soak your chain in kero to get all the dirf off?

mitch79

I spray the chain wet with kero then let it soak for 5 minutes. Scrub both sides with a toothbrush and more kero. Scrub the rear sprocket whilst at it. Spray everything clean while rotating the rear tyre. Wipe down with rags, lube and ride :)
A pump up spray bottle makes things easier. Takes me about half an hour to do it properly. I lube every 500kms and clean and lube every 1000kms. Motul Road chain lube for me  :thumb:

I use WD-40 to clean the chain, which is keroseen based.  May not be the cheapest method, but gets the job done and I don't do it often enough to worry about the expense.  Of course, lube once dry.  O0

Replaced the generator cover gasket on my '02.  I found two cracks and evidence of an RTV "repair" from the previous owner.  Overall not too bad although scraping off the old gasket took some time.  No more oil on my boot and time to get rid of that cardboard for the garage floor with oil spots all over it...
