We gave our bikes a nice group outing today.
Saturday 3 of us took our GS500's for a nice ride to Vashon Island. They loved it! Ride to the ferry. Short ferry ride to the island. 45 miles all over Vashon Island then a ferry back to Seattle. We loved it as much as our bikes did!

4 GS's in the carport before we took off for the ferry terminal.

Our bikes enjoying the sun in the waterfront.

His beloved bike and playground.

Swapped coils to see if my intermittent issue is a coil issue or not, then sync'd the carbs as I haven't done it for ages.

Rode 175 miles to a bike show in Spencer, NC, USA.  Nice sunny 60ies day,  great ride on country roads.  Did not see any other GS500's.

GS never missed a beat as usual.

I got given mine as a present along with the Gunson Colortune and the adjuster tool, that was an awesome gift!

Dropped some new plugs in the bike today looked at the old ones... the gap was so small none of my 3 different gapping tools would fit. Wondering if ill notice a difference haha

I told the story of Patrick's (Adidasguy) passing to a friend last week.  Today she gave me this:

Quote"Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves on to motorcycles for as long as there have been bikes on the road. These Evil Road Spirits are responsible for mechanical problems and bad luck along a journey.

Legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell onto your bike, the Evil Road Spirits will become trapped inside the bell where the constant ringing drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground. (Ever wonder where potholes come from?)

Legend also has it that the mystery of the Guardian™ Bell carries twice as much power when it is purchased by a friend or loved one and given as a gift.

Show someone how much you care. Offer them defense against the Evil Road Spirits! Give a Guardian™ Bell and share the Legend of Good Luck it offers to a motorcycle and its rider!"

so I hung it on my bike for good luck!  If you want to give one to a friend, or even buy one for yourself they're at: http://www.guardianbell.com/

Then I went out and bought one of these for my helmet:

I rode around with it on the dash for a while before I stuck it to my helmet. It seems to go off when I reach above 35mph and come one when slowing down below 35mph. When stopped, it seems to go off after about 3-4 minutes. These are approximate values as it doesn't seem to be completely consistent. Either way, it's an extra reflector and that can't be all bad  :icon_eek: And it was only 8 bucks  :thumb:

Unfortunately, you can't buy a guardian/gremlin bell for yourself. According to legend, it has to be given to you.

Replaced exhaust header bolts (one was slightly bent, and difficult to get out)
Replaced clutch lever (it got bent from a stand-still drop when I was working on adjusting the chain tension) and the clutch lever adjustment bolt (that snapped right in half). For a week, I was riding with a DIY shorty curved lever!

Much respect to Patrick for his video on removing the switch before taking the lever out.

I added a small Adidas sticker to my fork brace today as a small tribute to Adidasguy.

Bought my (4th) GS seven months ago with 14.5k miles and a rusted chain. Bought a can of Maxima Chain Clean-up (O-ring safe) and cleaned it thoroughly. Adjusted the slack out of it, lubed it with Liquid Wrench Chain Lube and all seemed well. As expected, after about 300 miles I heard a little chain noise. Adjusted significant slack out of it and re-lubed. Again in another 300 miles, adjust and lube. Repeat. After a few more adjustments I could see that the adjusters were nearing the rear limit. Each time I got the chain noise back it seemed louder/worse than the last time.

This last time the chain noise was suddenly so loud and grinding I wondered if I would make it home 5 miles without a failure. So I adjusted out the slack and started to apply lube. As I spun the rear wheel I could see the forward part of the chain "walking" left and right as it entered the engine case. I decided I better check under the sprocket cover. Here's what I saw:

The chain was just spitting O-rings into the case (and probably all over the road). I looked over both sprockets and amazingly enough they are both in near-perfect condition. So, off to buy a new chain and breaker/riveter tool.

So, a massive cleaning of the area with Purple Power!

New chain installed and quiet as a church mouse!
