Mounting Engine to a Standard Stand

I did a search but didn't come up with anything useful. Has anyone successfully mounted our engine to a standard engine stand? Like the one from harbor freight here:

I've been trying to figure out a way to do it, but haven't come up with anything yet. Ideas? Thanks.

Just wondering... But why would you want to mount up your motorcycle engine to a car engine stand???  It only weights 120 pounds or so, you can put it on a workbench flip it around with the help of another person, or if your feeling strong like an Ox, do it yourself.  Its what I'm doing right now.

If your hellbent on hooking your motor up to the car engine stand, then you can make adapter bolts and screw them into the stand and the engine I'd have to draw a picture to show you what i meant... However the bolts that hold the cover to the crankcase block are pretty skinny, but they would be able to hold up the engine.

But like i said before... Whats the point of hooking up a tiny motorcycle motor to a car engine stand when one person can lift it by them self?  :dunno_black:

What he said^
But if you want to mount it, you'll need some steel and a welder and an hour or two, no biggie! I think that you'd want to mount it using some of the existing mount holes, and if you do that you can strip the head and barrels off, but you can't split the cases. Then, putting it on the bench is the go. But you can do everything on the bench and save the cost of a stand.

Thanks for the replies, but I think I got it worked out. I ended up using some angle iron to make new brackets and it worked out great. The problem with a bench is my lack of one. My "garage" is basically a big tent in the corner of my brother's back yard. I used to live in a house but my roommate needed the extra room & I ended up moving to a studio apartment near school...so that's that. I have an engine stand, and no bench! Thanks for the help tho!

Well as 'The Mole' said.  Its a tad risky stripping bolt holes and such if you do mount to an engine stand.  Also he stated you can't split the case... Depending on the work your doing thats a pretty mandatory thing if your working on basically anything inside the engine.  If its just the cylinder jugs and pistons its no biggie.  It all really depends on what your doing with the engine...

For the record I pulled my engine out myself with a leaking pump jack and 1 jack stand.  Took it apart on ground outside on my driveway while it was sitting on a creeper.  Rebuilt and cleaned now about 60% of it on the ground on my driveway, until yesterday when we cleaned up my garage a bit and i hauled it onto my workbench.

In my experience the mobility of the engine makes it way more easier to work on, the more room you have around it and the more ways you can maneuver it will make your experience 20 times easier then mounting it to that engine stand.  Its really not worth it in from my point of view unless you want more of a hassle.  IF your flexible enough and have a bucket to sit on you can pretty much strip the entire thing on the ground.

Just my 15 cents dude  O0

Good luck.
