Will trade for my nearly new black rims (bought new bike GS500F May 2010, has 2500 miles on it). Once received, would have dealer do the replacement (so it is properly done) and ship black rims back. I can have them shipped directly to the dealer (RMC or Aurura Suzuki)
Any takers? What do you want for them?

That sounds OK but I really want front and back rims. The tires are optional since my tires are nearly new. Do you have both rims? (Though I'd settle for a rear while I continue to look for a front rim.)
Once I switch to white, my black rims will be available. Bike was bought in May and they have 2600 miles on them.
I don't know what shipping would be. The ebay dealer says it includes shipping, but I'm not sure. Anyway, if your end price is close (even a little higher) I'd rather support a GSTwin board member than a stranger from ebay.

PM me on how to complete the deal. I'll take it and then continue looking for a front wheel. Worst case I can have the dealer order one (about $500 - ugh!) but I'm sure one will turn up somewhere. I plan to have my dealer do all the changes in about 2 months as part of the 4000 mile maintenance. Since the bike will be all apart for it, they said I would save a lot on labor (I asked them about doing it this past weekend). And I have a really great dealer.  Since you changed your rear tire, I assume this is the stock factory rim.

BaltimoreGS

I think I have a couple sets of white wheels hanging around the barn, I can check if i go home this weekend.

not trying to screw up any deals but why not just sand prime and paint your front wheel get the back one of mary and sell your back rim when the white one gets installed.

I have a lead on a '92 with white rims and 28k miles real close to me. If I get it for $1100, should I get it and swap the wheels between the '92 and my 2009? Its tempting.

joshr08

i wouldnt spend 1100 to get white wheels.  kat 600 pre 98 rims are the same as gs wheels keep looking

I bought it. Not just for the wheels but as a second bike for a friend to learn on. It came with factory clip on so it was different to ride it. Engine runs really great so overall - now I have 2 bikes and the white rims I wanted, I think is was an OK deal. Plus with the factory clip ons, I have a bike of a completely different style to ride. If it didn't run well, then maybe not so good. But the engine runs smooth, it rides well, overall great shape and I can swap the rims. I think it was an OK deal. Anyway, I'm happy and that's all that matters. Right?

DLW

My '92 has white rims and I would love to have black.  In fact I had planned on painting them black myself.   Let me know if your interested.

PM me your contact info and we can talk about this offline in greater detail.

DLW

92 GS500E - '89 clip-ons, '04 signals and rear fender(pending 'ectomy), new dash and gauge buckets.

BaltimoreGS: if you have a pair, let me know. I might want an extra set just in case there is a problem swapping or I may just find it simpler to leave the white on the '92 and do the couple cosmetic things it needs to be a perfect second bike, then have a second set to put onto my 2009 GS.
The'92 is a model K which is the only one with factory clip on's and I may just like to leave her the way she is and bring her back to factory new condition. It runs really great so in a way I hate to start taking things off and changing things around.

DLW: Let me think about that first. There are a few people selling black wheels. You might buy black wheels then sell me your white ones. You'd end up about even and I'd have an extra set of whites.

89 was the only US year that came with clipons.

I stand corrected - thank you. Just bought new bar ends and clutch lever and dealer also corrected me.
I may just keep it as it is a pretty cool style - a GS500 "crotch rocket". Probably will paint the tank (which was already painted flat black) and make it look brand new. Fun to ride a GS with original clip-ons. I wouldn't think of doing this except it runs so well and rides so smooth. Only 28k miles on it.

So I can still use a set of whites for my 2009 and "pimp out" the '89 as a second bike (why stop there? Maybe get a third one?).

Actually, it really is a 1992 model GS500E-N. It is a Canadian model manufactured 11/1991 in Japan (according to the factory tags). Has all the Canadian stickers and is legally licensed in Washington state. Maybe the Canadians have a metric calendar and didn't know that factory clip on-s were only supposed to be sold in the US in 1989. Owner history indicates it is original and was not a replacement of the standard handle bars. The bike runs great and has NO RUST anywhere! Really in pristine condition. Started COLD with the choke off. Idles at 1200 to 1300. Not bad? Does need a mirror and a few other minor cosmetic things and the usual clean out of all the lines after 20 years. That will get done as I do a thorough "restoration" to make everything like factory new and a new paint job (a prior owner painted her mat black). Fun to ride a GS with factory clip-ons. Different than a standard GS. Kind of like a junior crotch rocket!

I'll be actively watching for parts to customize her and make her really unique. How often do you get a Canadian bike here in the US that is a model not sold here? That makes her a unique project. She gets to keep her white wheels. I'll find others for my 2009 GS.

This will be a fun project. Any advice and suggestions or parts - just PM me. Thanks!

Added: A couple people have told me the dealer is right that it is a 1989. However, I didn't have the VIN when I went for a couple parts, like a new clutch lever. Now that I have it and the VIN number it really is a 1992 bike manufactured 11/1991 in Japan. It is a REALLY clean bike.

Jared

I didn't say it wasn't a 92. You can  just bolt an 89 set on later years..(brake reservoir angle is a little dif etc..). A Canadian model might explain the clipons- they kept them on outside the US for awhile.

I know. I was told it was a 92 by the seller when I first looked at it then the local dealer said I was wrong when I went to get a couple parts and it was an 89. Once I got the title and VIN number, it really was a '92. You are right that it does match the US 1989 model for parts. Those Canadians!

Toogoofy317

I'll get those up close pics for you tomorrow.
