I have begin to notice that my battery seems to get weaker during long trips, to the point where it will hardly turn over (on an all day trip, multiple breaks)

I checked my battery, I have 12.8 vdc at idle, as I ramp the rpm up to 5000 as the manual states I should have 14 or so, I am only reading 12.4 vdc

i have checked the continuity of the stator and it is good, But when i check the reg/rec it states I should use suzuki pocket tester, I am using a fluke multimeter and have open circuits between B/W and y1, y2. and y3 also open between B/W and R.

I an pretty certain that the reg/rec is bad, just wondering if not using the right meter is changing the results

thanks, Dave

Nevermind, I decided to check my meter and discovered one lead not connected properly, used another meter, 12.9 volts at idle 13.6 at 5000rpm, which is in spec, guess its time for a new battery

i had an intermittant voltage problem, the cable was corroded to the point of falling in two. thought it was the battery/starter/fuses/switches. after replacing the bad cable and charging slowly, it started GREAT again.

also, consider a headlight interrupt ($5 relay) that kills the headlight when you touch the starter button. makes a huge difference in cold weather. :)

hey ohgood, could you please tell me more about that headlight relay.
I would like to install one but not sure what, how, where etc...

thanks a lot in advance!

It sounds like if you fixed the bad connection and you started reading a higher voltage you should be good to go now.
