Dirty air filter

I've seen a few recent treads about changing filters and some members asking questions about the K&N lunchbox. I'd like to change my air filter but I don't know the best way to go about such a task. Is it better to just replace the stock one with another stock, or is there something a little better I can use without having to re-jet and/or change the exhaust?

If you get a more free flowing filter, you need to re jet. Jetting isnt too hard, so i would say get a K&N filter.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a KN.........don't think it would change performance any noticable amount.   Re jet seems like a pain in the A.........have read some horror stories..........

The only good thing about KN is that you can clean them, and re oil, and re install.........but this is a messy job too

The stock filter seems to work just fine...........it can be cleaned several times before replacement is required.....

Mine has 7500 miles.....just removed and cleaned......it was not even dirty!  Maybe some microscopic stuff....just blow out with compressed air...good to go...........no hassle......bike runs great and gets great gas mileage...

Also when you drain your battery, make sure you buy a 1amp motorcycle battery charger and charge it over night... don't think jumping it and then riding it will charge it... it WON'T.  I unnecessarily bought a new battery because I didn't know this.
