Changing Light/Odometer on Replacement Speedo

When my bike went down a month ago the bolts holding the speedo to the holder snapped off.  I pried one of the bolts off of my tach in order to keep it secure but the speedo & tach still bounce around now.  I am looking at getting a replacement speedo/tach setup and installing that on my GS but if I do that, I'll have the replacements odometer reading on the bike rather than what it really is.  Is there anyway to adjust the odometer to what my current odometer reads or do I have to keep a record that I replaced the odometer at XXXX miles and the new one had XXXX miles on it already.

I know Dakota Digital gauges ($$$$) will add your current mileage to a new odometer - for a price of course. Some other gauge makers may also do the same.

Or you could hook up your old speedo cable to a drill press and let it run until the new odometer reaches your current mileage
