Those pics that look washed out - ooooo unexpected bonus.

I had one of those savage bobbers, and mine was a raked out pseudo chopper with a 9 degree rake @ the triple, had a 21 inch front wheel and was an 01 with 4K miles. Oh yea I had a real seat, and it was done by master vinyl artist and gstwin guru jared ... it looked like a knock out. It also had stainless drag bars, harley risers aluminum front wheel, new tars and rode better than a stock savage and looked great too. Nothing home made about it. Honestly I had it first in CL in june not october for 3K when I got no bites, then @ 2750 there was one guy who was quite serious about it and he offered 2600, but between his seeing it and offer I got rear ended on it. The guy waited 3 weeks and bought it off me @ 1300, but that was after insurance write off and it was a salvage title and had some minor damage (scrapes and what not) as well.

This thing looks ghastly compared to mine. I'd call it 1000 max, and that is if it looks far better in pics than in person. Mine had a FE that easily could be split off and sold for 800, I sold the triples alone for 450 in 1 case with the stem and 400 without stem.

Cool.

I don't think I have ever seen your Savage. It's funny to read you writing about it and yet you're partial to the 89-00 GS look. They are quite different looking bikes. And yes, his pictures are fuzzy at best, can't really see the quality of the work just the over all bobbed look.

The Buddha

I'd chop a savage and bob it anyday, The savage is one of those bikes that just needs to be chopped and bobbed. Again I am not opposed to modding, I mod FE's and most any other part, I just dont like the newer sport bike tails on the GS.

I am not slapping a different tail on the savage, I am just cutting off what it has.
BTW after my FE mod, from most angles in front you saw just the FE ... just not as brightly cos I used old and understated parts on it.

I made the triples out of 1 1/4 plate for bottom and 1 inch plate on top. The legs are off a KX125/250/500 84-89. They have a 9 degree rake in them, that coupled with the extra length I'd rate as good for ~45 degrees total. The bike originally had ~34. However by trial and error, and a wee bit of educated guesswork lead me to a trailing axle configuration, see the brake caliper is in front ... I put the left leg on the right and right leg on left ... the bike actually handled better than stock. I conservatively have decided that my next version will be 12 degrees, I think I could get almost the same handling and get it to stock ride height with 12. I can always offset the axle further back by making a "pillow blocks".

BTW look @ that front rotor more carefully ... recognize it ? That is a GS part ... rear rotor modded for its hub.

Cool.

I dont mod stuff just for the heck of it ... this bike turned up @ my door cold, wet and shivering - true it was 09 St patty's day, so she was a bit hammered too ...
All of 3600 miles and a busted front end ... in fact it broke further in the back of my truck and literally fell over ...
The only option was to buy a FE for a savage ... which was prolly 2-300 bones minimum or slap the KX one I had ... which did fit wihtout mods ... but the thing was too high and the thing hit the tank ... ergo ... had to rake it ...
The surprise was ... it was lighter than stock ... the wheel being aluminum and narrower ... and that 21 inch dia meant it was spinning @ 75% or so the rpm of the stock 19 on average ... and  since the moment of inertia depends on the square of rpm, I had a good 40+% drop in that. That couples with the  wheel that was 1/2 the weight, and with the tar was prolly 1/3rd the wt ... all that was unsprung too ...
The legs were heavier, but not by much cos all the bulk is in the lower part that is aluminum, and the triples were heavier, again not by much, cos these were pure 6061 aluminum, the stock was pot metal/cast junk.

Overall, I can get to 12 degrees and lose none of the good, and get a super raked out chopper I think.

That will never work on a GS ... it has to beat the original in atleast most counts that matter ... a GS doesn't ahve to steer even quicker ... that would be largely useless to a street rider ... it will have to work in terms of longevity and other factors ... just as an example.

Cool.

Man I didn't realise a $600 bike cound be made into a $6000 bike by jus tcutting and throwing away stuff that is perfectly functional, and welding in scrap metal and then painting it. Oh yea It needs little things ... that is the punishment for just spending 6g on the bike ... he could be persuaded to do those also for an additional 4g I'd guess.

mister

Been on a test ride?

let me fix that bit...

Been on test ride and almost killed myself cause the thing is unrideable. Also, it is not able to be registered on the road. So looking for the greater fool than me to swap a road-rideable Harley (cause they are most likely to be the only morons to go for it) for my POS. Stolen Harley's accepted too.

No time wasters.

There, much better.

Oooo that adidas, you're picking on that little thing ... look @ where the chain idler is ... yea that Idiot's chain is so long it needs an idler, and look @ where the moron has it installed. And if it ever breaks or skips or something guess the fitst part it will make contact with ... yup, underside of your thigh/butt.
I think we're going to need an instant on the road safety check ...
Combine it with those DUI check points ... and arrest the fool for having built the bike on drugs.
