More miles than I would normally look at but, that doesn't mean a thing. Go check it out if your interested in it and see how it sounds and feels. Get a feel for the owner they may have babied it and taken super care of it and the engine and trans be in excellent shape yet. Might be able to work the price some too by actually going to see it.

Its a high compression sportster engine. goot for ( IF WELL MAINTAINED) of over 150k on top end, 200k on lower, if maintained well, a good price, and parts are QUITE available and cheap too. hell if you wanted you could put a yoshi on it. ( EASILY done)

40k isn't that awful for the bike, they're pretty reliable and low maintenance. Rarely hear anything about motor problems. That being said, I think the price is definitely too high for the miles. It's the same exact bike I got, same year and everything, bone stock for $3200 and only had 3400 miles on it. Haggle him down to $2000 or just wait it out. You can find one with much lower miles for $3000. The newer ones do go for more, but honestly the differences between the 2003 and 2010 are pretty slim so you'll definitely get a good deal buying an older model.

Also, those are either not the original forks, or else he painted them black, that black rear fender is off of one of the 05-08 9sx models, and obviously that one mirror isn't original. None of those are necessarily bad things, but it would motivate me to look the bike over really well, who knows why random parts are replaced/painted like that. It's got a pretty highly desired seat though! They're hard to come by anymore. Anyway, I still love the bike, definitely go check it out if you're interested, and feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions!

Here's what you can get if you look around, mine the day I brought it home...

But you clearly don't want to take advice from someone who uses lint as currency, do you?  :icon_mrgreen:

it's true though, they're not for everybody

Ehh i think he believes obama has to buy it for him  :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:, these units are easily repaird on the RARE occasion if needed. also if it has a bank angle switch. if its out of warranty, can be bypassed. i had trouble out of those more than anything. engine. NEVER had trouble. TBH had more issues out of my gs than my sportie. but still loved em both. may grab another one when i get to north carolina

Thanks for the advice, I'm gonna go take a look at her as soon as I get my payout, Allstate is being kinda slow with it, and the shop took forever to fax the estimate on top of that. I guess that's what I get for getting hit around the holidays, lol.

I wasn't too sure about keeping it for the long run considering parts aren't going to be made for it, but at least there are 8 years of pretty much the same bike out there to get parts from, not to mention 90% of the parts are swappable between the XBS, XBR, Uly, and every other model. Even the motors are 95% the same, just a different crankshaft, pistons and primary, but even those parts are exchangable, worst case scenario you'd just end up with the opposite displacement you started with. I'm definitely planning on keeping mine around for the long run, I just can't picture myself enjoying any other bikes the way I do with this one. I'm eventually going to stuff an xb12 motor into my xb9. The 9 is plenty fast and some people like the 9s motor more, but for the kind of bike it is I really feel like my front wheel should spend less time on the ground and the xb12 motor would be a good way to accomplish that. The 9 motor is better for people who like their bike to rev a little higher and like working it more, 12 is better for keeping the RPMs low and just chugging along with the extra torque. Hopefully by the end of the year I can find a crashed xb12, I think it'll be much cheaper to pick up a totaled bike with a good motor so I'll already have the right ECM, headers, fuel injecters and speedometer instead of trying to collect them all seperately.

Harley sportsters ;) they still make em, and parts interchange. the xb9's  pull/buy 883 parts, the xb12's use well 1200 parts. exhaust thats straight up buell. but most other part5s will swap out with a sportie

I've wondered how many parts would carry over, I'm sure there's a few. I know the xb motor is based on the sportster motor, but the Buell versions make twice the HP, so there's gotta be some differences. I'm sure the topic will be thoroughly discussed once parts are harder to find.
