For me its been since about mid-November..... My bike isnt even within 150 miles of me so i cant even go tinker on it  While I love many aspects of winter, not riding is not one of them.

Last time I rode...about an hour ago. Not sure where you're located, but riding in the winter in California is most definitely bearable.

Since mid November, I've gone for a ride three times. Last time, 10 days ago. Of course we don't have winter right now, we have summer. And with that, rain and the floods with it - which I'm pretty sure you folks in the USA have even heard about.

You may recall The Baton made a visit to a small waterfall...

Here is that same waterfall two days ago...

Winter does suck...it was -20C this morning (ON, Canada) and no signs of it letting up.  My last ride was Saturday Nov 6th 2010.  I was at a local bike show here over the weekend and that was good...but left me feeling even worse once I got back outside.  Not being a skiier, snowboarder, snowmobiler etc ... for me winter blows.

I live in Albany, NY. Bike is down in NJ. Full on winter mode right now so no riding. I do however drive up north for steelhead fishing and am starting to ski. Gotta pass the time some how i guess.....

Like, it's supposed to be Summer here in Oz but everytime I look out the window it's either pi**ing down or looking like it's going to do the same....it's a mad country for weather...think I'll fit an umbrella on the bike...ah, no, didn't BMW try that????....as Mister said, the flooding in Queensland is real bad...media reporting today 8 dead and 70 missing in Queensland...not good.....

I'm in Pittsburgh but we had a random warm spell on new years eve. I got in just over 100 miles of 50-54 degree riding that day. My bike is still filthy.

My bike is in Oak Harbor, WA, and I haven't ridden since December 15th. I had just cleaned the carburetors (and replaced the JIS screws with socket head cap screws to make it easier in the future) in hopes that I could ride back to my apartment in Bellingham on the 17th. Had my fuel hoses from the tank to frame mounted petcock transversed though, so when the bike started acting like it was out of fuel, switching to reserve didn't help. With a few stops to rock it over for more fuel, I got within a mile of my parent's house, so I walked back to the shop, got a gas can, went back to the bike and got her home.

Saturday, November 13th...the bike is still parked at the garage door waiting for the ice to melt...it was -4C that day (in the morning) and the ride was pretty cold...it snowed on Monday, and we have had snow and ice since...

We are expecting -28C to -32C overnight all week...-19C to -17C for daytime highs...we had 10-12 inches of snow over the weekend, and it has started snowing again tonight...gotta luv a Canadian Winter  :thumb:

I'm hoping the warm up starts in March and we can get some riding in by the end of March or early April...fingers crossed... :dunno_black:

Later.

Winter does suck... but I try to not let it stop me. Did my usual 70 mile round-trip commute today. 19 degrees F in the morning, about 30 F when I rode home. The kids chipped in and gave me some $$ to buy a decent pair of winter gloves - and it has made a big difference. I'm pretty cold-tolerant  :cookoo:  and dress for it... but I'm not trying to fool anyone - it is cold. I do get some interesting looks from the other drivers on the road.

Yeah, I got the same looks back in November (pre-snow)...other riders are jealous, and non riders think you are nuts... :thumb: ...they just don't get it...and yes, the gloves is what makes or breaks the ride...I have to get better winter riding gloves before next fall...I think the cold was coming in the stitching, my hands would be numb after a 30 min ride to work... :icon_sad:

It's just too cold here to ride anymore, even if the snow melts...-26C (-15F) right now...it has warmed up a few degrees since I left the house this morning...we're expecting a balmy -22C (-8F) by this afternoon...only a couple more months then it will warm up (I hope)

I find when riding in winter, all other riders nod at you. Almost as if you're sharing a "look, another hardcore rider" moment. A sign of mutual respect you're both not put off by the freezing temps.

As for gloves, so far the best winter gloves I have is from Chilhowee Leather http://www.chilhowee.net . They would get more of my business down here, but instead of putting the gloves in a padded envelope and sending it down for $6, they wanted to charge me $35 for shipping - which isn't so bad if you're buying three/four pairs, but for one pair of gloves they can stick it.

Other than hands, next bit to keep warm is the neck. A Neck warmer helps heaps. I've used a scarf instead and that works too. Throw on a balaclava and for extra cold a bandana wrapped around cowboy style covering mouth and nose and you do't really feel the cold. Just make sure your jacket is good for it.

As a rider i still say your nuts!   I dont mind the cold but if its 30 out and im doing 70 mph I want a wind shield and a roof!

Not having a garage is what killed it for me. I would love to break her out on the warmer days but dont want her buried in snow mean while.
