Hey guys I have a 2004 that I need some help with so that I can get it inspected.  For some reason when I pull the front brake the brake light will not come on.  Does anyone know what could be the problem? I am not very experienced in electrical systems so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
     Lee

Check the contacts at the switch on the brake lever.

Does the foot brake turn on the light? If so, then do as suggested and check the switch contacts and wiring.

If not - then check the tail light wiring. Follow the wires from the tail light under the seat.

Does the running light go on? It should illuminate the license plate when bike is on or in park. If not - check wiring and also both bulbs could be out.

I think the home page or the Wiki has a wiring diagram. It is pretty simple.

If it's like what I'm thinking, be careful taking the switch apart. There's a couple small parts inside that will fall into a black hole.

The foot brake does turn the light on and the running lights also work its just the front brake that doesn't activate it.  I'll take a look at wiring diagram and the switch, and I'll make sure and be careful about the small parts inside the switch.  Thanks for the help

Clutch switch 89-96 is the one that is a bunch of tiny parts. 96-on it is a regular slide switch.
The brake switch is a single unit (like a micro switch) that you can't take apart. If switch is bad, unscrew it and replace it.
Are the wires connected to the switch? If not - connect them and try again.
Else....
Unplug wires from switch. Short the wires together. Does brake go on?
If YES - replace switch
If NO - trace the wiring. Broken wire.

When you get the test done, just step on the rear brake as you pull the front brake lever, light goes on=test passed. :thumb:
