Should have given him a taste of a Shoei flavoured helmet Mary.

Why ruin a perfectly good helmet?  Keep a padlock tied to a rag in your pocket.

You know, it's funny how people react to situations sometimes...when I am in that type of situation, I come across as a wuss...I don't stand up for myself very well, but my blood boils when I see things (or hear about them) happening to people that I care about...I'm the big softie in the corner, or a teddy bear...so I've been told...but God help the poor soul that does that to someone I feel is under my protection...

I know, it's the internet...and I can be a tough guy in here...so all this is fluff...

Anyway, I hate to hear about this crap happening to someone that I think may need some protection...and I don't even know her...it's funny how you get attached to people that you don't know...internet friends... :embarrassed:

Sorry, I think I have a "Big Brother" complex...

Awwwww, Mad that actually made my afternoon.  I've had a piss-poor day my heart currently hates me! Walking to the bathroom and my HR is 140 and out of breath. How much does it suck that taking a Krap wipes you out! Went to Wal-Mart with a friend she's quite a bit older than me but we don't get the looks when I go with her even though it is my hanging placard. Part of me wanted to take the scooter (yeah, I felt that bad today) but ended up not doing it. Just been one of those days.

just get me a good lung and heart I'll be happy. But again even that has it's complications!

A "handicap" placard or plate is not a benefit anyone with a disability really wants. We had one for about 6 months while my daughter was re-learning how to walk.  We only used it when necessary, like busy (dangerous) parking lots like Wal-mart.  The disability is a very high price to pay for a good parking spot.

We were VERY glad to park in normal parking spots when she got stronger!

I hear ya there Paul. Sometimes even my friends don't think and they will say your lucky you get to park up front. Then I ask them what their blood type is and if they would like to trade hearts. If so they can have my tag! Usually, only have to say that once. I've found very few "perks" of a heart problem. And if you look at a lot of handicapped spots they now put them at the end of the store and that qualifies because the ramp is there. At most gas stations here in Florida the handicapped spots are usually at the very end of the row now because that is where the ramp is. It is the distance that tends to kill me but no one cares about that anymore.

Couple of thoughts.
I would expect an abundance of "D-bay" spaces (as we call 'em here) at a Dr office, clinic or Hospital but no matter how many, last person + 1 looses out. Tough but something you have to learn to live with.

People get very possesive about "their" space. I was with a (now deceased)friend about 4 years back and he parked in a D-bay at a hypermarket in France, a passer-bye seeing his Brit registration plate launched into a fit of arm waving and shouting despite the fact that there were five or six other D-bays vacant. My friend politely pointed to his Blue badge and the EEC flag in the corner (it's a transeuropean scheme) but nothing with going to settle the guy down, well nothing until his Mrs intervened!

The last thing most of us want is a Blue badge (or whatever) even if from time to time we have a little grumble about parking! I don't know the rules elswhere but here there are designated bays plus being able to park anywhere WITHOUT causing obstruction - a minority of the badge holders get the rest a very bad press by forgeting the last three words.

( in my crown vic, had hte hangtag in car for HER. ( kept in glove box), well at market, girl pulls into spot. not disabled, no placard. im like WTF? shes like put off by my grumbles, and like WTF dude ill only be here a minute, , i said cops will be also. and i pulled in behind her and took my time letting mom out of car. with walker, and whatever else needed. her minute turned into 25. no other space available exceptohhh 45 slots away.

Yes Yama that must be maddening, the parking wardens etc are pretty hot on it here.
One of the things I find a bit weird is that the shopping malls / supermarkets etc seem to have more and more categories of "special" parking that grows by the day - Not just D-bays but spaces for mums with kids, pregnant women, old codgers like me, I can't be bothered to read all the categories or try to comprehend the colour codes. I sometimes wonder where it will end.....................................

also, folks with disabled tags have all kinds of reasons. just because maw runs in or hops or jogs, she may have a 7year old that is handicapped and crying hef eyes out at home because of pain. prescritpions get lost nad out of date , but usually when a kid really needs it.

If they can jog in the extra 10 spaces isn't going to slow them down even a minute... I'm not talking about a person with  metal tags . I'm talking about the ones that look 3-4 spaces past the handicapped spot and decide to whip right into them and pull the placard out (or the ones that borrow Mom/dads car but have nothing wrong with them ) -often to run in to get crap like cigs or other BS.  Hell with the bigger fines...give them a good limp or something to make them legit...
I just hate that kind of abuse...

Anyway....

Feeling better today Mary?

Whatever dude...I'm just saying the last thing I would be looking to defend myself with is my $300 helmet.   :flipoff:

Why not carry a tazer, or pepper spray...maybe knife him...he deserved it after all... :icon_eek:

I'm just saying that using force would have made her just as wrong as he was to get in her face like that...and yes, my first reaction was to club the guy as well...but we can't just resort to violence to "fix" the situation, sometimes it is better to take the moral high ground and either ignore him or walk away...and with Mary's heart condition, stay calm while doing it...not easy to do, I think she did the best thing in the situation...but I am surprised that no one got the guy to bugger off...plus being security personel, an assault charge may have an effect on her job...

I still feel pretty lousy today. Not sure if it is the anti-biotics in conjunction with everything else but all I want to do today is lay in bed. My heart rate just laying in bed is 130 which is uncomfortable when trying to rest. Everytime I close my eyes I feel like I'm in an Eminem concert with the base vibrating my whole body.I haven't really eaten either to much work to get up to the fridge ATM. But, I do have 6in left of an Itallain BMT sub NOM NOM!

Yeah, Mad your right no matter how much I wanted to jack that dude up with my helmet. I knew better even though I only work a small bit it would have been fun explaining it to the dept of Agriculture. I know I can't even make sense of that ,Any charges of violence on my record could very well cost me my class "D" license. Which is funny because if that guy would have pulled that while in uniform it would have been a whole different story. I could have used equal or less force on him and not even have thought twice.

My goodness I feel awful today! I can't get my HR to slow down. Ugh, I have class in the morning and only my bike has the registration for school. Due to costs so yeah even though I don't particularly feel like it I'll be on Flick. Gonna have to go to the Dr. office probably tomorrow. After this though I doubt I will even park in the handicapped spot because I don't think I could handle again what I went through. It still amazes me how little it takes these days to throw me out of wack!

Back in '90 I permanently injured my back, which kept me from pursuing many of the things in life I enjoyed, motorcycling being one of them.  Left me more than a tad depressed.

My doc was the proactive sort, always checking in on every aspect of my recovery.  He explained that while I might have pain walking long distances, motorcycling was not necessarily contraindicated.  I gave it a try, and the only bad aspect was lack of lower back support.  He wrote up some magic-Doctor-stuff, and the disability insurance paid to have my moto seat re-sculpted.  Swinging my leg over was still an exercise in patience and forethought, but riding was magic!

Because walking any distance was still an issue, he offered to facilitate me getting a handicapped tag for the moto.  In the end I didn't take him up on it, precisely because I feared reactions along the lines of the one the OP got.  Most folks, even riders, don't think that "truly handicapped" people can ride.  I didn't want to find my moto tipped (which I was not capable of remedying at the time), and instead chose the discomfort of walking the extra distance (or not stopping at all if I couldn't find a space that was close enough).
