for your country jak as well as mine. when i went to the gordon lightfoot concert in 07 , 24 hours before my kidneys failed first tiem, i met 2 vietnam vets, i bought them eacha  drink and a thank you. they were like WTH? they had never been shown hospitality/gratitude. this picture brought tears to my eyes, because it showed TRUE emotion. the old vet, hugging in gratitude the marine who lost 1 arm, and what looks like part of right hand as well.

I wanted to sign up when I was 18, but my dad talked me out of it...he may have saved my life that day, since the Gulf War started a few months later...but I think I would have enjoyed the life...

I does look like the younger soldier has had a rough go of it...scaring on his chin, and possibly a glass eye...very emotional picture...

I actually like to go up to Police and thank them as well, they put themselves in harms way for us too...and what do they get (hopefully some job satisfaction), a medium wage and probably marital issues because of the demands of the job, attitude from the majority of the public, and alienation due to people not wanting to have a "cop" around when they may be doing something questionable...not a career I would choose to do, so I thank them for doing it...

Yeah, a career in public service is a pretty thankless job. I had every intention of going into the Navy. But, God had different plans I guess.

It still befuddles me that an EMT-B here in Florida makes a little over $10 an hour but a football player makes closer to $10 million. And yet in football they are going to strike because they want them to play two more games a year. As an EMT I never got an "off" season.

Where are our priorities?
