It has come time for me to replace the chain and sprockets on my GS and a had a couple of questions to throw out there.

Is there any particular make of chain out there that works well with the GS? And what are peoples experiences with different sprocket combinations?

Garrett

Ditto. My chain is spent.
not to thread hijack but is an O-ring chain an "upgrade?"

Thanks
I buy junk

I would personally go with a DID or RK. Stay away from cheap chains. O ring chains last longer I believe.

Bluesmudge

The stock chain is O-ring, so that wouldn't be an upgrade.

Non O-ring chains are cheaper, but you will be lucky to get even a few thousand miles out of them. O-ring chains will last 20k miles if you take care of them.

Eduardo

Is the RK X-ring? Is there any advantage to an X-ring at all?

The standard chain is the DID is that right?

X-ring chains are just like O-ring chains except the shape of the o ring is an X if you cut it and looked at it from the side.  It's still a circle shape, but when cross-cut, it is an X.  It is reported to last longer because there are two separate seals on each sides keeping lube in better.  Also less surface area is touching so it will wear less and that aspect is also said to lower resistance to movement.  This is just what manufacturers have said about the chains.  I don't have one.
