i see mostly grips with the flange. i also mountain bike and love the grips from lizard skins. they have nice aluminum clamps to lock on the bar. i am waiting for a reply from them for the inside diameter of a set to see if they fit the gs500f bars. anybody run grips without that big flange on the inside against the handlebar controls?
these are the flange model

these are the no flange model i have on my mountain bike

correction these are the ones on my mountain bike

Does lizard skin make grips for motorcycles? bicycle grips are 7/8ths on the inside so if that's what you're looking at they wouldn't fit. I had some Ourys on my one bike for a while, but they're super rubbery so they just stretched to fit the 1" throttle tube.

racingisnature08

if they all are 7/8 i dont know if these will just stretch that easy. especially with those aluminum clamps. suppose i could go in the attic and just measure the ones i got. what confuses me is lizardskins.com says small or medium diameter, but dont give actual measurements...

The aluminum caps will definitely be 7/8ths. I have some grips like those. They're great for bicycles. Some bmx bikes have 1" bars, so if you search around you may be able to find a pair that would fit the throttle tube, but you'd have to buy 2 sets of each and mix&match, not to mention the right grip will have a bigger outside diameter. Motorcycle grips are specific because they have different inside diameters while still keeping the same outside diameter.

Seriously, its not worth the trouble given how many choices there are for proper motorcycle grips.

I like to run katana grips along wiht the kat throttle tube, but those are just more cushioning and have a massive flange ... so wont help your problem.
However if you put aluminum clamp on grips on the plastic throttle sleeve you're gonna break the thing. Your best bet is to get grips with the throttle tube already machined in them. I have a set but not a GS throttle sleeve, mine is for a virago if I remember.

My suggestion is not to bother with bicycle grips. The advantages to lizard skin lock-ons, or any lock-on grip are completely out the window on a motorcycle. Plus the inside diameters are not the same, you won't be able to make a lock-on grip work on the throttle as they have a hard inside plastic that is a smaller diameter than motorcycle grips.

Just grab some motorcycle grips for $10-20 off the interwebs or your local shop and call it good. You SHOULD be wearing gloves anyways, and at that point they'll all start to feel similar. The advantage to different grips on bicycles is you're moving around a lot more (standing, pulling up, pushing down, etc.) and need a grip that won't move, and is comfortable enough - as bicyclist tend to grab the grips harder than motorcyclist (again, you don't move your wrist/arms as much).

tt_four

They should all be pretty much the same size. Just measure your current grips and order something the same.
