We have a regular at the pizza place that started talking to me the other night. He basically called me over to his table and said 'Who are you, and what do you want to do with yourself?'. I told him that I paint stuff and have an interest in anything mechanically oriented. He gave me a number and said call me monday.

I call him monday, he gives me directions and says 'be here at 9 on wednesday'.

I go in this morning, fill out an incredibly long application, and try to figure out what the place is and what they do based on the decor of the lobby. I find a bunch of metal sculptures, some shaped like bullets, some look like some sort of brackets, but all are very intricately made and it becomes apparent that I am in a machining shop.

So I finally finish the app and give it to the receptionist, and she goes through a back door and comes back with 'the guy that likes mushrooms on half and onions on the other'.

He hands me some safety goggles and takes me on a tour of the shop. After some research, I find that it's one of the biggest in the Atlanta area. It seems huge, and the machinery within is of gigantic proportions.

He shows me some of the things being made. Most seem to be aircraft related. One guy is making slide brackets that hold missiles on the bottom of an F-22 raptor, and another is making the actual boarding ladders for said aircraft. There is a guy making these tiny little clips, almost miniature copper paper clips, that have something to do with converting M-16's to accept C02 cartridges for military training purposes.

So yeah, I've kind of been handed a huge opportunity out of nowhere.

That's awesome man, congrats.

That's pretty crazy that they're pulling people off the street to work on airplane parts, haha, but that's still cool you're getting set up with a good job.

I used to work the night shift in a gas station and the same guy would come in every morning for coffee. He said he was impressed with how I worked and offered me a job. Would've been cool but I was still in college at the time, but i would've had to stop going to school to take the job. Amusing thing is, the only reason I was such a hard worker when people started coming in by morning, was because I spent the entire night screwing around with friend, and by the time the morning came I was running around trying to mop, make coffee, and stock the shelves, haha.

Congrats on the job mate. And as someone already in the defense aerospace industry welcome brother.

We do a Lot of work for the Airforce. That's all I can say, any more and I've have to erase your memory  :flipoff:

Flashback: years ago I was helping do some work on a property. A tree lopper turned up to fell some trees. His Climber needed a different sized chain saw. the Boss was in no condition to climb the tree, so I scampered up the tree to exchange saws. When I got back down I was offered a job. Later, I went to the takeaway store to buy lunch, the guy behind the counter offered me a job - two random job offers in one day.  :thumb:

All that, coming in early for nothing has created a vibe around you, which has paid off. Well done.

Congratulations!  I'm not someone who is into fate, kismet, pre-determination, and all that crap, but when an opportunity like that falls in your lap you have to take it.

It pays not to screw peoples' orders up!  You probably impressed him as someone who's on the ball, which works well in any line of work!
