Same as the boot thread, I'm looking for a new jacket.  Based on the boot thread responses, should get a few good suggestions here.

Anyone have any feedback on the T-stunt air flo from alpinestars for hot summer weather?

Thanks in advance.

Paulcet

I can't give any feedback on the T-stunt particularly, but I'll give some observations.

A fully ventilated jacket (like mesh or perforated leather) is great for hot weather.  They just flow air so easily.  However if you will be traveling long distances without stopping you can get dehydrated, so stop often to drink or use a hydration pack.  Most of these jackets have a removable liner for "cool weather options", but I have found that if the liner doesn't stop wind, it does very little to keep you warm if you are moving!  So if you really want a full mesh or perforated jacket to be a 3 or 4 season jacket, get one with a waterproof/windproof quilted liner.

If you don't spend much time stopped, a non-mesh or perforated jacket with good ventilation options might be good.  I am surprised at how well my 'winter' jacket flows air if the vents will stay open.  That's the only problem with it, they could have been designed a little better as far as that goes.

So I think I typed all that to say the best way to go would be a summer and a winter jacket.  Next best would be a truly versatile year-round jacket.

I got rid of my old belstaff jacket but kept the liner. The only one I have now is a Yoshimura textile mesh jacket. I can wear the mesh jacket and liner down to about 45 degrees and be perfectly fine. A good removable liner is definitely the key! Love vented jackets by the way. I would never survive summer without one, and I think I actually feel cooler riding in a vented jacket than I do in a t shirt. It makes you sweat ever so slightly when you stop, and when you start moving you're extra cool.

I'm becoming a gear whore I think! First step is admission right  :dunno_white: For oh my God I'm going to die summer wear I have this from AXXO for $50 on ebay not too shaby!

For just HOT I have my GXair by Cortech has a rain liner and cold weather liner but lets in lots of wind hence the name I guess. I also have a Joe Rocket Suzuki Jacket that the guys on here got me on my birthday It's cool that the arms come off but I normally won't ride like that

Then I have the AGV perf leather Fusion jacket I like it for the semi cool weather we get here in Florida. Ironically it seemed to be about as warm as my textile stuff in chilly weather which suprised me. I have it in Blue of course!

I have not really found a jacket that I put on and really liked.  My favorite so far has probably been the Speed and Strength Call to Arms, but for the moment it is definitely outside my price range. I do want to try their Off the Chain, I like the hood and back armor, but cannot find one local to try on (and still out of my price range). I may just break down and buy one of these closeout jackets, likely the Speed and Strength Fame and Fortune ($110) or Fieldsheer High Flow II ($55), Fieldsheer Congo ($70), or even one of the armored hoodies.

Though it is hard to convince myself to spend $100 on a jacket I have no idea if I will like or not, when I could just spend $200 on one I have tried on :-X.

some nice choices.  I'm going to check out the adventure rider forums and see what they suggest as well.  I've seen some adventure riding suits that are crazy expensive, like 800 for the top and 700 for the pants.  I'll post a link when I find it.

That's the wrong direction, in my case at least!  :D

It will be nice when I get a real job, if that ever happens :icon_rolleyes:. Twelve hours a week at Papa John's kind of limits the gear budget!

I cant comment on that jacket, but from personal experience, i really like the Dririder climate control 2, its a perforated textile jacket with the armour in it. It comes with the waterproof and thermal liners and its a fairly good price.

Its very nice for riding in Aus, haven't tried it in winter yet though, so i cant tell you much about the thermal liner.  :thumb:

My jacket is an Ixon Rafale. Mesh in some spots, but leather on the elbows, shoulders and such. Has a removable lining. I've used it from -1C (wind chill dropped it down to about -20 to -25C) to about 40C. Big range of comfortable riding. They also zip onto my Ixon pants, makes it very comfotable when doing a bit of distance in the cold.

Got the Dririder too. Awesome for summer. A lil so so for winter. It is warm enough with a jumper underneath but with just the liner in it can still be chilly. I still have to try it with the waterproof liner in as well to see if that makes a difference in winter. Shouldn't be to bad for Gladstone though. But on a bike if the temp is 10 celsius the wind chill while riding will be -9.

It very rarely gets below 10 degrees here lol, usually only for a week or two a year, so i'll manage  :thumb:

the waterproof liner works surprisingly well for the rain, so i'd expect it to make quite a difference to stopping the wind in winter

Really stuck between the Speed and Strength Call to Arms or the Off the Chain. Only thing that makes me nervous is some of their older jackets seem to have zipper issues but I tried the Call to Arms on in-store and it seemed well made.

I like the styling and fit of the Call to Arms, the liner also sounds more useful. However, I like the back armor and more water resistant materials of the Off the Chain. Hopefully get out in the next couple days to a couple more places to see if I can find one (or others) to try on!

Could still try to save money and go with the Speed and Strength Fame and Fortune, or Fieldsheer Congo Mesh.

So many choices!

If your not wearing a seperate back protector, swap the cushion out for a forcefield small (shape A).

I would suggest Alpine Star. I love their jackets. They are all very comfortable and cool when they they need to be but also warm. Great build quality also. I cant comment on their protection luckily.

According to the measurements neither of those will fit. I don't think that is necessarily true but unless I can find one local to try on... I am limited not just by size, but many local stores don't go up to my size which limits what I can try on in store.

I've done some long distance riding in >100 degree weather. In those conditions, pouring water on your shirt and opening up the vents a little seems to work better than mesh.

RSK70

Nicky are you only looking at mess jackets?

If that is the case I can actually comment on both the T-Stunt and the Fieldsheer Congo jackets although neither are mesh (but the cut/features are the exact same). The A*s jacket is really nice quality but the cut is really short. I tried the leather jacket (which I ended up buying) and the mesh for sizing and they are essentially the same. Wish it was maybe 2 inches longer but I also have a long torso. I need to pull my pants higher so I dont have some tucked in shirt sticking out between the jacket and my jeans.

The cut on Fieldsheer's jacket is more roomy. A lot of great features like tons of storage and cinches to customize the fit to you. The textile congo sport I have is awesome and 4 seasons with a bit of layering. Now if only I can get my bike started when its 20 degrees out  :technical:

Not sure how helpful my comments were but basically if you want a more fitted, sporty jacket go with the alpinestars. If you want a solid value and comfortable jacket the fieldsheer is hard to beat. Quality on both (at least the non-mesh versions I have) are great.
