So they destroyed the ignition on my 07 GS500f with a screw driver, I have it in an underground parking space thats to low to get it towed. How or can i drill out the ignition and unlock the sterring and possibly start the bike.. Any help here is appreciated, Im moving out of apartment and have to have the bike out in three weeks. Thanks

Problem is, you're basically asking how to steal a bike. Whether it's yours or not, we have no idea.

Its a Gs500f Im asking about, mine!! its not a R1 or Gixxer etc... I cant believe someone even tried to steal it, but they did and just made a bunch of aggrevation for me. Would I really join a GSTWINS website, looking for info to steal a little GS500?? I guess its possible, but very unlikely.

Big Rich

Not trying to give you a hard time, just don't want to be responsible. It's a shame but it's true.

Could try calling a local locksmith or the police.

Called the cops, and they took report but besides that not much they could do, I could go thru insurance but then rates go up and deductible is probally higher then the repair. Lock smith told me I need to take it to a bike shop, problem is I cant start it, get the steering unlocked and cant get it towed cause the damn ceiling is too low in the underground. Cant take trucks etc.. Only other option I guess I have is just try and drill it, and try cranking it with a screw driver, or a really low trailer behind someones car and maybe with a few friends we can lift it up the foot or so for trailer. Dont really know, but theives piss me off.

That sucks!  Maybe you can get some help from a friend with a pickup. Will have to lay the bike down sideways (use lots of carpet or cardboard) to fit through the parking garage. Be gentle with the fairing though, will have to be careful where you let the weight push on the bike.

Start it you can withe the wires, but how to unlock the steering have no idea  :dunno_black:
Btw sorry about that. I hate robers  >:(

Back when I was a (car) gearhead, we had a couple of dollies made of 2x4s and caster wheels.  We just cut four 24" long sections, then bolted them into a square to the wheels; took under 20 minutes and under $20 to make.

Put together (or borrow) something like that, get a friend, lift/drop the front wheel onto it and push your moto to where it can be towed/trucked.

(If your locksmith can't remove the lock cylinder on-site, I would recommend against trying to drill it yourself; you may end up damaging the ignition switch, cylinder housing, et cetera, which would add to your repair bill.)

Nothing to lose by butchering the switch in the hope the lock will free off, then its a case of hot-wiring it which on a GS5 is very simple.

If you are not keen on doing this is there anything to stop you and a mate lifting the front wheel up, sliding a skateboard underneath and duct taping the wheel to it then carefully manoeuvring the bike to a position where you can get it on a truck??

PM me if you want to know how to hot-wire it, despite it being child's play its not something to post in an open forum.

You can pull the front apart and then just take the ignition/top triple off. Just take your title with you incase the cops show up while you're tearing the bike apart.

Is the front end locked into position? Just walk the bike out haha. But in all seriousness, it's a little sketchy that you are asking this... Especially since this is the only thread you have posted in.  :icon_twisted:

Just new to the site man, because of this BS with the ignition is why I found the site.

Also the dolley idea is probally a good one, just the fact that im two stories down in the underground and the damn ramps are pretty steep might be fun pushing up them, but I might have no other choice.

Well, if you do have insurance did you get road side assistance. If so just call that and let the tow company deal with it! It is their job at that point to get it out. Flick was officially dead yesterday called Progressive and they took it to a friend's house for free. TBH that is worth $1 a month IMHO. If you filed a police report your insurance company will find out. Why not just be done with it at this point and save a lot of blood sweat and tears unless your masochist and enjoy that kind of thing. But, yea your reasoning in your post "why would anyone steal a GS" the answer is blatantlly clear because someone "tried" to steal yours! It is a terrible world we live in and you have to CYA!

If it was a simple call to the insurance company and all taken care of then yeah I would, but my insurance company knows and thats bot an issue, its the 500$ deductable and there is no insurance company that offers Road side assistance on motorcycles here in Canada that I have found. Also I did call a tow company, and because of depth of underground the height restriction and the steepness of the ramps they wouldnt do the job. So yes it is their job, but in this case they wont do it. Have recieved some help form some members of the forum and after work I will try and see if I can get it out. Thanks to everyone for their advise.

If you have like three, four or five friends come you can semi wheelie it out. Two guys lift up the front and turn while the others help support and push. Wet weight is about ~400 lbs?

That's the dry weight, with all other stuff, and the tank full, should be around 450.

Uh....say what?  :icon_eek:

He said it is underground and would need to be pushed up the parking ramps to get it to street level. Instead of having to push it use a vehicle to pull it while someone holds the bike up...
