So I just finished up painting and doing some repairs on my GS500. During that time, I had the gas tank, signal generator, and oil pressure switch off. I also changed the oil/filter. Everything is back in place now. However, for some reason, I can't physically can't turn the key past the ON position now. Tried everything I could think of...kickstand up, neutral, first w/ clutch disengaged, wiggling the key...nothing.

Any ideas on what to check? i'm sure it's something simple but I cant figure it out. Checked the MOM to make sure I wasn't crazy and all it says is that the bike needs to be in neutral or in 1st with the clutch in, kickstand up.

Well, i'm an idiot. I forgot to hit the starter button lol. My last bike didnt have that.

Trying putting some WD40 inside
Done it before when I washed the bike without covering the key hole and it was hard to put the key in

Our keyed ignition switches have a start position? I thought it was Parking Lamp, Lock, Off, On.

Just curious, what kind of bike has a key start (no button)?

I haven't a clue myself, but maybe it had a keyed electrical system and a kick starter.

Maybe you're talking about one of those motorcycles with 4 wheels. The...... automobile...... I think  :cookoo:

:icon_lol: Anyone here use that parking lamp position? To me it reads "Battery Drain Mode"

Big Rich

I did some research into that before- there are some places in Europe that require you to leave the lights on while parked at night.

Australia needs this...
the other day i seen a rider stopped on the side of the road it was night time, i pulled over and stopped the bike and realised that there was no street lights.

the only way to turn the lights on a bike in Australia is to turn t he key to the on position or run the the bike, both have their problems. one burns out the ignition the other over heats the bike.

See... this is why I don't get why the GS500, or all bikes for that matter, don't have 4-ways. what is up with that Suzuki? huh? If i pull over, or am rolling, and i have a problem... nothing says 'go around me carefully' like 4-ways.

Big Rich

They make aftermarket kits that have 4 ways.

Imagine what the hand signal would be for the hazard lights.......
