Do you wear sunglasses with a full face helmet?

So I have a HJC full face helmet and use a tinted visor. However, the tinted visors are illegal here in Michigan. In the past I have had run in's with the law regarding window tinting on my car so I want to avoid silly pull overs such as a tinted visor while riding my GS.

Is it silly to wear sunglasses when using a full face helmet (clear visor)? Any suggestions on legal visors? I'm in Michigan.

Tinted visors are ILLEGAL? Thats ridiculous. I wear glasses so wearing a pair of sunglasses shouldnt be an issue. However for all MI riders with glasses who cant wear sunglasses are forced to be blinded by the sun and no tinted visor? That doesnt sound safe to me.....

Rant over, just wear sunglasses, i see people do it all the time.

No tinted visors?! That's ridiculous. They've probably had problems with people crashing in them at night, and even though it's obviously illegal to wear them at night, I know plenty of people who wear them during the day, and then evening comes and they don't have any choice but to keep wearing it because they don't have another with them.

I picked out a pair of glasses with a magnetic sunglass attachment. I thought it would be a huge help but they do something weird to your vision and I couldn't ever wear them without getting a headache. The sunglasses interacted with the helmet visor and turned everything a weird color. For a while I just put a strip of electrical tape across the top of my visor and then would pull it off when the sun went down.

Other than that, your best option is to get a helmet with a built in sun visor. I just got an HJC FS10(on sale at motorcycle superstore for $140 if they still have them, msrp is $250). Great helmet. Not as comfy as my old one but the drop down visor makes life much better and I don't see any reason you'd get hassled with it on.

My eyes are soo light sensitive that I have to wear sunglasses with a tinted visor.  Granted I wear the sunglasses that are polarized so the difference between full sun and my sunglasses is not that significant.  I actually have a prescription for 20% glass on my cars.

Well, i'm in finland and tinted visors are no way illegal in here. But no, i don't wear sunglasses with my full face helmet. I've got an Airoh TR2, which has two visors, one clear and one tinted. Here's a pic of mine.

Well I don't know. A colleague said they got pulled while riding and the cop told them that the tinted visors are a ticketed offense. I'm trying to find the actual rule on this at the moment. No need for me to change out my visor over something that is not real (or that the cops really just don't care if your wearing one).

Indeed. That's a great helmet because i can wear it on day and night, if it gets too dark i don't have to remove the tinted visor and install a clear one, but i can just lift up the inner visor and then i can see again.

I wear normal glasses under my full-face helmet and have a tinted visor. it's not the most comfortable setup, but it can work. it's a bit of a pain having to remove your glasses whenever you put on/take off your helmet.

Silly or not, I almost always wear sunglasses with a full face helmet. Here in WA it is illegal to not have eye protection. So if you are in town, riding with your visor up, and you do not have glasses or other eye protection, they can stop you. For me however I wear them mostly because I wear contacts and the wrap around sunglasses help to keep my eyes from getting dried out due to the wind. Even with my visor down the wind that comes from the chin of my helmet irritates my eyes. When I rode to California I wore clear protective glasses in the early morning and night for the same reason.

No i dont, the arms to the sunglasses dig into the side of my head.. not very comfortable. Get the light-smoke shield. Not too dark where you couldnt ride with it at night.

I have a darker tint for the HJC and yes, night riding is not suggested with it down :)

I wear sunglasses with my full face all the time.  Make sure you get something that won't hurt as the helmet pushing on the sides can dig into your head if you get a pair that isn't comfortable.

But like one other said, in MN it's the same you HAVE to have eye protection, so on a hot summer day (if we ever get one this year) stopped at a red light or something, if you don't have sunglasses or other eye protection on under your helmet, you can't *legally* lift your visor to let some air in.

I wear sunglasses when i need to with ful face helmet and balaclava on cold mornings.

On my ride to work i have the sun directly in front in autumn which is a pain and summer it is high, but just low enough to blind me

all part of the fun  i suppose :)

I got tired of the glasses arms digging into the side of my head so I picked up the HJC IS16 last week, it has the drop down tinted visor similar to the one posted above, So far it works excellent

I still have NO idea what the difference is between this helmet and the FS10 I just got. Not sure why HJC would waste their time making 2 helmets almost the same for such close prices.  :dunno_black:

If you're not sure about wearing a tinted visor, maybe you'd be happier in something like this....

I plan on picking up something like that eventually, either that one or the cheaper version from AFX. After those two it jumps up to $500 for the arai and shoei versions. You can use a clear shield but still have that sun visor to block out some of the sun. It'll be great around town because that visor is huge. You wouldn't have anything blocking your peripheral vision.

I have two visors - clear and tinted. I wear the tinted on the weekend and clear (with sunnies) during the week. I wear clear during the week cause my hours are always an unknown - maybe I start in the dark and finish in the light, start light finish in the dark, start dark, work through the light and ride home in the dark. I tried leaving the dark on and wearing clear safety specs for night. But the bugs would get between my face and the helmet and not be dead - yucky feeling with squirming bug on your cheek or trying to get into your ear.

As for what the cops say... in Aust when they write you a ticket they put an Infringement Code on the ticket. Some things have no code - this it is not an infringement. BUT, what they will do is put a Different infringement code on the ticket than what they Tell you the ticket is for.

For example: There is no code for wearing a helmet without an Australian Standards sticker on it. But they'll tell you it's illegal. IF they write the ticket they might put down the code of Unseen rego label or not wearing a seat belt. But cause YOU don't know the codes you think the ticket is for the helmet sticker and pay up. Tricky buggers.

I've got a Shoei TZ-R and I can fit sunglasses inside of it pretty comfortably. I'd like to get a tinted visor but I'm often riding well in to the night and I don't usually have the space for an extra visor. Nvm the fact that I wouldn't want to change it out all the time.

I do keep a pair of clear safety glasses with me to wear when it gets dark, simply for the protection it provides while the visors up.

I think you will find it is only illegal to wear tinted visors after dusk for the obvious reasons.

I wish I had one of those race visors with the little nubs on it for the tear away screens. I could just put a tinted on on, and when it got dark I could pull it off.
