I can now personally vouch a 1997 Suzuki GS500 engine fits into a 2008 Suzuki GS500F (although you'll have to use some parts from your '08 engine to complete swap.) I asked my mechanic why the '08 engine gave out like that and he said, "The only thing I can think of is that you were reeving way to high all the time. You had enough oil and it wasn't that dirty." He had quoted me $1.2k to rebuild. What is wrong with 08 GS500's motor is damaged rod bearing went (only one though) and rebuilding the top end. I recycled carburetors and shifter from my '08 engine to complete swap. The casings are still in good condition.

Here's some photos attached of the engine in the back of my car;

I want to sell it quickly and try to recoup as much $$$ as possible. Mechanic said to sell it to a steel salvage yard but I'd rather sell it to someone who's looking for a project to rebuild an '08 GS motor. How much do you think I could get for the injured engine? You can come to Culver City to check it out anytime, anyday. Live and work in Culver City, CA.

99.9% chance is the rod bearing damage messed up the crank and the case and possible other bearings too. Ebay is flooded with cases and dead gs500 engines with the same issue. I don't normally comment on prices or for sale posts in general, but since you asked..... someone here MIGHT pay shipping for the bottom end if you give it away free. The head MIGHT be worth some $$ if the thrashed bearings pieces didn't flow up (chances are ..this happened) via the lube system and kinda act like liquid sandpaper on the cams, caps, bearings, lifters valves, etc.
