Is this going to be OK?

I'm relocating my Petcock and adding an In Line Fuel filter so I needed some fresh Gas Line and enough of it to have mounting options.

I searched this site and came away with the recommendation for Fuel line variety being Tygon.

Whelp, ordering things off of E-Bay I suppose I didn't pay attention enough, and made payment on this stuff, which is "Equal" to Tygon, Argh...This ones on me, I'm such a tool. I hardly wanted to post this cause I am actually pee'd off. Argh....

Tell me what you think, will this stuff melt upon fuel contact?

It should be ok.It says 10% ethanol but there should be a built in safety factor. It's fuel line.Just not the name brand.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

You can also but pre-cut fuel line at pepboys for a few dollars. I tried using clear fuel line once that I bought at tractor supply. It turned yellow and got really hard haha. I stopped trying to save $2 and just bought the real stuff.

Yuri.

My lines were so stiff that it broke two times when I was going to put it back in the tank petcock, so I bought stainless steel braided hose(pretty expensive). I was too lazy to change the old ones, but after the same broke again it was just too short to be used.
So I tried to change it, and to my surprise the frame petcock nipple is much thicker then the tank one, and the teflon hose it not very flexible. I ended up buying some 5/16" clear hoses(about $0.50 per meter) that could be streched to fit in both nipples. So far so good, but I know it shouldn't last as long as proper fuel hoses, so I just keep an eye on it.

You're getting into a brand name thing here. Tygon(r) is a brand name. Fuel safe line that's not made by Tygon can't be sold as Tygon.

It's like buying generic face tissue... it's not Kleenex (brand), it's tissue. But both work...

You'll be fine.

Buy is giving assurance that it's fuel safe... if it hardens or swells, file a claim with Paypal for inferior product.

you can soak a peice of it in fuel for a few days before you  install it on your bike to see if there is anything immediate that happens to it if you are concerned.  It won't prove anything for the long term life of it but at least you will see if it melts away before your eyes so that you dont get fuel all over your bike if it were to happen there.

I agree that it is probably the same stuff and will be just fine though.

It's not really fuel on your bike I would be concerned about...if it starts melting on the inside, it will gunk up your carbs pretty damn quick...messy and a PITA item...but if it is a rated fuel line that says it is ethanol compatible to 10%...you should be okay...but for piece of mind go with kman's suggestion and soak it for a couple of days...if it feels slimy, pitch it and make the claim...but I'm thinking it will be fine, just not a brand name...

Later.

PS...the clear lines will yellow and go brittle, probably within a season...and with the ethanol in the fuel these days, it may just eat right through it...I would not use them on a bike...lawn mower or tractor, fine but not a bike...

I'm hoping this wont be the case, but with my skills and luck, sadly I'll have the best Briggs and Stratton sounding GS this side of the Mississipppi.

I like clear fuel lines. Saves ever having to open something up to see if fuel is flowing.

Has anyone, ever, seen fuel line dissolve? I've had the clear ones harden... never dissolve.

You could just go to a hose supply and buy line over the counter that will be made for exactly that. Recently I had to find 3/4 Inch Oil line for my turbos and all places said either they couldn't supply the heat range (300 degrees Celsius ) or the size for the heat range. Went to a supplier who supplied hose specialists (like pertek) around here and they over the counter sold exactly what I want at a 1/3 of the expected cost. Very helpful indeed so much that I'm going back there for all my hose and clamp supplies now.

I prefer not to take a chance with fuel or oil. Vacuum lines well that's a different subject.

I like the idea of clear lines however if you do everything right (Hooking up the lines properly) and your components are in good working condition you don't really need clear lines. In fact that 10' of clear Tygon like line that I bought will serve as garage stock and I am pretty sure I will be ordering the Motion Pro (Love there Dirt Bike tools) 25' role of 1/4" ID Tygon line in the stockish Grey color. As with most things on this build I'm trying o pay attention to all of the small little details, not that I'm making a show winner by any stretch of the imagination but rather I take pride in my work and have a very limited budget for what I want to do and how to go about doing it. To me if the bike looks well thought out, has clean and cool little details, and is detailed well it makes for a very rewarding experience when others comment on the cleanliness and completeness of the build. Nothing wild going on here, just looking to have good stuff on the bike and with buying a "Copy" and furthermore clear, prone to discoloring fuel line, I am going to have to purchase a different brand and style for piece of mind, wish I had half a mind when initially purchasing this stuff, I need to stop ordering stuff when in 4-20 mode and late at night.
