Haynes seems to be easier to understand with pictures but Clymer seems to pack a lot more information on repair.
Considering I've never repaired any automobile or motorcycle before, which one should I get?

I bought and use both. Plus my bike came with the factory service manual. Nothing like overkill when you're wrenchin'.

I started out with the Haynes.  I agree with you about it being "easier to understand".  I bought the Clymer later on, and I also agree that it has more in-depth information for many procedures.

I like having both manuals, but I almost always reach for the Haynes first.  I can actually FIND stuff in it, and it covers just about everything I have done to my bike(s) in 3 1/2 years and 34,000 total miles!

(Note: I haven't split my engine cases yet.  If/when I do, I'll reach for the Clymer first - but still consult them both.)
