Should be in 1st gear at lights anyway. What if an inattentive driver comes up behind you with tyres screaming and you are stuck in neutral?

Sometimes at a long light I need to do something with my clutch hand

Sounds like your clutch needs to be adjusted at the engine case.Run the adjuster in at the lever and the engine side cover. Then remove the little cover below where the clutch cable goes into the cover. It has two No2 phillips head screws.Break the lock nut loose.Turn the center adjuster in until it just touches the clutch rod.You will feel it.Then back off about a 1/4 turn.Hold it there while tightening down the lock nut.Reinstall the cover and adjust the cable.Start by adjusting the cable at the engine cover.Get close to 4mm of free play and then use the lever adjuster to fine tune it.

This does sound like it could be the case.. I noticed if it's not in neutral when I start the bike it will move forward a little bit, even with the clutch all the way in - I also seem to stall out in first while just idling at a healthy 1.2k RPM sometimes.

I will try this today, thanks a lot.

I tried this, and I am a bit lost. Is there a more detailed guide?

I think I understand how the clutch works in general, and I understand how the adjuster and locking nut work, but I can't find what I'm supposed to do on the engine case. Do I need to move the gas tank to get at it? Where on the engine is it? I guess I would need pictures to work me through it

Thanks

No need to remove the fuel tank.Follow the clutch cable down to the top of the left engine cover. There is an adjuster there like there is on the clutch lever.Just above the left foot peg there is a little cover with two phillips head screws.Under that cover is where the clutch adjustment screw and lock nut is located.Run the lever and case cable adjusters all the way in before setting the clutch rod gap with the screw and lock nut.
