Tacho cable housing

OK - need to replace the tacho cable, no problems there. However the outside of old one has seized in the housing that attachs to the cylinder head. How do you get the housing off the cylinder head? I have removed the small screw thet seemingly attaches it but the housing is either a very tight fit, or I am missing something else!

The round part that is against the head,unscrews from the head.I never remove the part with the screw in it.The part held on with the screw is the tach drive and has nothing to do with the cable,except that it screws on there.

The problem is the part of the outer cable that screws into the housing has cracked off and has left the threaded part of it in the housing, so I cant fit the new cable till I get the remnants of the other one out, or replace the housing with a new one.

I gotcha!I was just looking at a tach drive.It should pull right out.There is nothing holding it in except the one screw on the side of the drive housing.Try turning the motor over but don't let it start.Maybe the gears are tightly engaged.Once you get it off,you should be able to unscrew the damaged parts.

You should be able to take a pair of needle nose pliers, stick the end in there, and turn the threaded piece out while holding the pliers open against the piece. It may be tough to get it started, but once it starts moving it should be slow & steady getting it out.

I got exactly the same problem. I can't remove the housing that's fit onto the cylinderhead. The old threaded part is totally wasted, the only thing that is still moving is the tachocable itself on twisting (i cut the cable to get more room)

I tried using needle pliers, normal pliers. Hammer and spearhead (putting it behind the housing to get it off).

Ofcourse i removed the screw. How in earth do i get this housing off? (picute is 90 degrees turned)

The o-ring on mine needed replacing. I had to pull hard on the gear shaft to bust it loose.

There are two, both on the geared shaft. Old ones were cracked and leaking oil. I had to pull on it pretty freakin hard to dislodge it.
