to sell or not to sell

Greetings, salutations, etc, etc from Ontario, Canada.

I've followed these forums for a few years now, though I'm generally a lurker and rarely volunteer commentary.

One of my only posts commented on my need to get out more. Well, that was some time ago, and I still need to get out more. My 2008 GS500e has traveled a scant 500km - that's 500km in 3 years. So I ponder now whether or not to sell my beloved machine. I hate to see it sitting idle in the confines of the garage.

The big question is what kind of an asking price is fair (both to me and a potential buyer) should I decide to part ways with my ride?

The only addition to the bike is a windscreen, everything else is stock (and clean, too, of course - it's difficult to get dirty if rarely leaves the garage). It was bought new for $5500, and is in very much the same condition as the day I took delivery. Never was it dropped.

I'd appreciate any input, please and thank you.

And if you can convince me not to part with my GS, all the better.  ;)

Thanks all for your time.

Stop looking at it.
Put on your gear.
Get the key
Sit on it
Start it up

Now do you really want to sell it? What's the alternative? Is there an alternative?  :dunno_black:

Bottom line is,  selling a GS won't pad your wallet to much.  Buying a GS won't drain your wallet too much either.

So financial gains shouldn't be a consideration.

Just ask, why don't you ride more?  Are you nervous?  Do you not know where to go locally?

If you can answer why you don't ride, you can start to work on that and you may just end up loving your motorcycle again.

Good luck!

ride ride ride. since new gs's at this point are under 4000. you are looking at a heavy loss too.

My standard advice is you don't sell a bike.  Pretty much for any reason.
1995 GS500 on a 2000 frame with F front added
2001 SV650S
2008 VTX1800F

You gotta be kidding, summer is almost here! Take it out for breakfast early Sat or Sun morning. Pack a lunch and go find a tree to sit under, get creative with it!! :thumb:

I'm not sure how sales are up there but down here you can still get a brand new 2009 GSF for $3200.00 I know because I just bought one 2 months ago. So on a resale not to insalt you but on the high side you may get with theright person around $2500. I am like you, if it sits it's time to go and let someone else enjoy it.

Just food for the thought.

Thanks all for the responses so far.

Price or profit isn't so much the issue here, although I have seen ads for dealers that are selling used GS500s from the same model year for anywhere from $4-5K, but with 6-10K km on 'em (we Canadians tend to pay more for things). Based on the excellent condition and low mileage on my machine (and the fact that I'm not a dealer), I was thinking $4K would be fair...

BUT she's hard to let go of. I think for the time being I'll take some of the advice received and just
