While bench tuning my bike today,my starter relay let go.After running the test on it, as specified in the Clymer manual,I determined that I needed a new one.I called all the stealerships with in an hour drive from me.I finally called the stealership where I purchased my very first road bike. The parts guy and I talked a few minutes and I told him my story about buying my first bike there. He ask if I could ride over and he would help me out,and bring my old relay.I took an hour drive over there with my fingers crossed.I introduced myself and the guy remembered me and my old friends hanging out there and buying stuff. He told me to hold on and disappeared in the back.About five minutes later,he came out carrying an arm full of boxes. He looked up my bike's starting system specs, shuffled through the boxes, and ask if I mind changing wiring connectors.Sure didn't.He sat a QB box in front of me.He said that the relay was the same quality as the original and it's $55 cheaper. He explained how to set it up.BINGO! I'm in business!

I couldn't get pics of the install tonight. It is to dark, but I did get pics of the new parts.I'll get pics of the install tomorrow and post them.Besides the relay, the parts I used were two female snap connectors.I had some used ones that were still good.I also had to drill out and replace the screws.I drilled the heads off and then use a small pair of vise grip pliers to unscrew the remaining part. The phillips head screws just stripped.I bought four stainless steel M6 x 16 pan head phillips screws(0.40 each) and four stainless steel M6 split washers(0.10 each) from my local Ace Hardware.I got a deal because I helped the owner recently with an automotive problem.

While I was writing this,I did some checking on GS connectors. My 89 GS had a big green connector and a completely different relay. The used connectors I had came off my 91 GS, from when I sold the relay off of it.After a bit of head scratching,I believe my 91 GS had and old style relay and my 89 GS had a newer style relay.I checked my 92 GS and it has the relay with the big green connector. Can anyone confirm that the 89 GS had a different starter relay than 90+?My Clymer manual shows a relay with the big rectangular connector and a drawing of a relay like the one I purchased. One can never tell what is or is not original type parts on these old bikes.  :dunno_black:

I trashed the old relay at the stealership, and I dunno where the big green connector got to that I removed from my 89 GS.I'll try to get a pic of the one on my 92 GS parts bike and the pics of my install.
PICS are GONE never TO return.
