Watching these makes you feel not so bad when you do something dumb. These people really excel at stupidity.

Two squids were killed here last week and a passenger was seriously injured when they ran from the state police at 120mph down interstate 290.  One of them got busted for doing 100 last year.  He got run over by an 18-wheeler after he fell, and that usually wrecks your whole day.  As a result, they won't reach the ripe old age of 30.  Stupid is as stupid does.

I have a GS, im much more concerned about my body! Hell im only 24 and already have a bag shoulder and knee from sports. Skiing and fishing (yes fishing  ) I dont want an accident messing them up more.

I spout on this shiite because I want everyone to stay alive.  Most motorcyclists, and I'm no exception, are high-risk tolerant people.  The problem is too many of us don't make it.  I've known too many people, roughly half of which were better riders than me, who are no longer with us because they took risks that turned out to be too big.  Their tolerance for risk was even higher than mine, and they're no longer here.  I knew a guy who could make you laugh at will, even if you were in a bad mood.  He was that good.  How much is that worth?  I miss him.  I would never advocate legislation to limit biker freedom, but I ask you all to look at yourselves honestly, assess your skills, and especially your weaknesses, and improve them where you can, and be careful.  Public roads are a plethora of bad surprises.  Please remember that every time you ride.

There is a great irony in what we do.  Our society sees it as a very macho activity, but the more macho you are the more likely you are not to live long.  Even though I've been aware of this all along, I've always tried to not look at biking as a macho thing.  That, and some good luck, is why I'm probably still in one piece.  Will I end-up like the others?  Maybe, but I think the odds are less if I keep thinking as I have from the start.  I just love bikes and I need to ride them.  It's always been that simple to me.  I must keep riding, and I can't keep doing it if I'm six feet under.

Im new, have 500 miles under my belt, and practice in a parking lot for 10-15 min every time before I go out just to get situated.

And, if I fall, hopefully with my armored jacket, gloves, and helmet, I wont get to abused.

On the to-buy list is a armor plate vest with back, chest, shoulder, and rib protection, some good riding pants, and riding boots.

If I fall, I want to bounce and slide and then walk away.

aye to be able to pick yourself up, dust off,pick gravels out of exposed skin, then figure out why you went down,and to make sure that doesnt happen again  i ride conservatively. hell if i owned a litrebike. it would prolly be the only one not breaking the speed limit obscenely

All that doesnt help when you get run over by an 18-wheeler, or sandwiched between a few cars. Im not knocking gear, I wear it and i think everyone should too but the reality can be grim.......

Or slide into metal barriers and get a leg sheared off, or high side into a tree and shatter, or get tossed into a light pole and bent in half...

If you were in iraq, have a vest and armor, and knew you were going into battle, would you bring your gear?

That's quite the analogy...but it works...the gear keeps you safe in a fairly minor accident...the ones you should be able to walk away from, your skill as a rider keeps you away from the other dangers...

Remember, it's the nut that connects the saddle to the bars that is the biggest safety factor...

Amen!  Brevity is the soul of wit and you proved it here, Scratch!  I worry about too many people biting-off more than they can chew and ruining it for the rest of us.  Every time our local media reports on a motorcycle fatality they also report on calls from those who want more regulation, which makes me sick to my stomach.  We have it better than bikers in Europe and I want to keep it that way.  Many of our European friends here ride the GS because it's in the biggest class of bikes they can ride without un-affordable taxes, and I don't want us to get into the same situation.  I love to ride but to me they need to be money-savers too, and if we have to fork-over several hundred extra dollars/year just for the privilege to ride I don't think I could ever get over it.
