Integrated tail light and uberfenderectomy (installed with pics)

Bought my new integrated tail light and I need some advice.  (speak slow though...I AM NOT edumacated when it comes to automotive or electrical anything)

Everything fits great, however the only problem that I am having (thus far) is that the quick disconnect on the OEM wires does not match the quick disconnect on the Aftermarket wires...

What are my options here?  Is there a simple solution like an adapter that will mediate between the two mismatching parts?  or should I take the white quick disconnecters out of the equation all together and splice the wires.... or should I use the existing OEM quick disconnect and attach the Aftermarket wires to it?

Sorry if this has been covered somewhere, but I am a complete noob when it comes to this stuff....

I'm not sure if they make adapters like that, though I would imagine you could make some kind of adapter. All I know about is splicing, and if you do that, all I can say is make sure you leave yourself enough lead on it so that if you have to remove it it can comfortably hang off the bike.

just like what Stafeback has said, just splice it, but use the OEM quick connect, so when you need to do something that you need to disconnect the tail light, you still can do it

also, that tail light looks nice, is it LED?

where did you get it from?

I just installed mine exactly the same, take it out to your bike and figure out all the wires (i cant remember off the top of my head) and cut the wiring harness for the stock light about 4 inches from the connector, solder/crimp the 3 corresponding wires together and plug it in... if ya ever need to go back you can just snip it and re solder the stock back on.

No one happens to know off the top of their heads whether the white or the brown wire is positive do you 

I'd hate to blow the fuse

Go get youself a cheap electrical connector kit from the auto parts store.  Use the pliers in the kit to install male and female butt connectors on the ends of the wires.  That way you can simply unplug everything if you need to remove the tail light down the road.  The less asthetic way would be to use wire nuts, but whatever you do please don't just twist the wires together and wrap them with electrical tap  That drives me up the wall  !

It looks like the brown wire goes to the positive side of the ingnition switch while the white/black wire goes to front and rear brakes switches.

i don't think you will blow in fuse as long as you don't connect the positive and negative wires directly to each other,
always put a load on it, such as your tail lights

if you have a tester, that would be really helpful

1 of the wires is the ground, another one for running lights, another one is for brake lights

Thank you very much for the info... I'll probably install it sometime this weekend and will post pics once its up and running.

I purchased it on ebay... it was relatively cheap compared to similar options so Im kinda taking a chance that it won't be junk in a month or two.  I figure LED's are LED's...

o ya before you finish installing it go to lowes and get some half length bolts... the stock ones dont fit they are too long

Look at the wiring diagram. It is color coded.

Thanks guys, all the info made the installation process quick and painless.

Decided to simply splice the aftermarket wires into the OEM quick connector...  (sorry the pics are so large)


Cut off the OEM quick connect

Re-connected it to the Aftermarket tail light and it mounted in place of the original with not further modification






The tail light is integrated, but I haven't decided exactly how I want to approach the turn signals yet... considering doing the "uberectomy" with the buell lights

Finished the fenderectomy and fully integrated the tailights (may still add some buell flashers soon... haven't decided yet)









Made the bracket for $1.06 out of a 7' x 3 1/4 piece of steel I found at the local hardware store.  (its specifically used to brace 4 x 4 pieces of wood together)  I used a dremel to the bracket to shape.

1. Hong Kong on ebay: That's what this one is because it has the wrong connector. You need to splice in the correct connector. Bought one to see what it was but don't plan on ever using it.
2. Clear Alternatives: Don't like because it is the only one that does not light the license plate (as required by most state laws)
3. Lights4All on ebay. I have that one on all my bikes. Has the correct connector so is plug & ride. Made in Germany.

Have you considered selling it then? If you have it just laying around. I don't might doing the work. The guesswork was all pretty much taken out in this thread, so should be easy. If so, how much?
