Hi all,

I bought a 02 GS500 as my first bike about 6 months ago. I started reading stuff on here ever since I got the bike, I even use the guide on how to change the oil and oil filter to do my first change. I have also been trying to join for a while but the site would not let me.

Anyway, I am working on the bike which always seems to have a new problem and I know NOTHING about motorcycles (till 6 months ago at least). I explain in the video what my latest issue is, if you guys would be kind enough to tell me how to remove this wire, where I should start, what tools I need, etc.

I had the same problem (no power when you turn the key on). Traced it back to the starter solonoid harness (it is under the right side fairing). There was a continuity issue between the red wires (that lead to the ignition switch and the rectifer) and the right solenoid post (that leads to the positive side of the battery...
Locate the red wire that goes from the solenoid (or where ever your fuse is located) and trace it to a harness that had on the other side a red and black/white cable. Unhook that harness and run a voltage meter across the side that leads back to the fuse (the red should be positive and the black/white is your ground). If you see a voltage across that then the problem is possibly in your ingtiion switch assembly (the one you are trying to disassemble). As far as I have tried, there is no real way to open it and you have to replace the entire assembly.

You check your fuse to make sure it isn't broken?

All you really need right now is a volt meter (set in DC unless you are working with the generator) and a wiring diagram http://pica-pica.wcgame.ru/data/2011-06-10/suzuki-gs500-wiring-diagram.jpg and to start tracing wires.. a multimeter with continuity checks is also very helpful.

you can see the connector I am talking about (the one at the top of both pictures that is just a red wire and a black/white wire)... That is how i rewired mine away from the old fuse setup because of continuity issues.

If you dont have a problem there... Find an orange wire (like the one on the indicator relay that is located in the same general area as the solenoid.... It is the thing in the picture that has 3 wires connected to it in mine since i have an electric relay.. if you have a thermal it will have 2 wires) and run the voltmeter in DC from that as the positive to the negative post on your battery to check to see if you have a grounding issue.
