Hello, I got this issue, there is an intermittant clinking around in my lower engine area. It does it sometime at stop lights and some times it doesn't. When it does it sounds like some marbles clinking around, I double checked by releasing my clutch while stopped to see if the frequency would slow down with the engine and it did. Also when the engine is completely cold, I can hear a huge clunk once in a while. This is also infrequent. What could this be?

Cam chain ? that is about the only hting that can clink and let the motor live long enough for you to get to a traffic light (assuming you dont live right @ a traffic light intersection).
Cool.

motor runs fine, I just did a 4 hour ride yesterday, its just this infrequent tapping clinking sound.

If its only when moving, drive chain. If its doing when stopper and from the top its cam side drift ot loose valve clearance, if its lower down in the motor, it has to be Cam chain tensioner.
Cool.

Check the speedo cable... The anchor that holds it to the fender on mine came undone and i kept hearing the metal hitting against the fork...

Cam end float noise? Does it happen after the bike is warmed up and when you pull up to a stop? Mine does this at times. Give it a quick rev and it disappears. I have been told it is a common fault in pre 05 GS's and is not terminal.

check your gearbox sprocket some times they are a loose fit on the shaft.

Will check that when I get a chance.

It does it when it is warmed up, usually when I stop at a light, will go away when reved, will slow down if I let the clutch out slowly while holding the brakes.

Where would that be? Other end of the chain?

The Buddha

By your left foot when riding it.
Cool.
