Ok, so I've read a few topics now that are about how the rear brake squeals up until it warms up. Has anyone found a work-around for this? It's really ear-piercing at times.  >:(

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

I had a squealing brake problem for a time when I put on new rear brakes. The solution I recieved from an ASE technician that does brake-work on cars, is to put a lubricant on the back of the pads, and any and all clips/pins that fit with the brakes. For the gs, since it has that little bent paperclip that sticks through the pins that hold the brakes, I think it's prone to more vibration than the front brakes. Either way, go to the hardware store and pick up some silicone brake/axle lubricant. It's thick like vasoline, but non-petroleum (which is bad for the brakes). Good luck.

If you go to the auto parts store they sell a coating for the BACK (NOT the friction surface) of the pads.  A THIN coating seems to work for me on bike applications.  Dries like a thin rubber coating.  The stuff I buy is orange in color.

Lots of things you can do.  I've had luck removing the pads and scuffing them up on med grit sandpaper on a flat surface.  Just rub them hard enough to break the glaze.

There is a product I've used at work called something like "Finishing Touch" that is applied to the rotor.  We use it on customer cars that have squeaky brakes.  I used it on Adfalchius's rear brake on her GS and it worked.  I'll take a better look at the can tomorrow, not sure if it is available at retail stores though.

I'm glad to hear that my brake works!

It's great when splitting lanes.

Squeeky brakes save lives!

I snatched a can of the stuff we use at work on cars with squeaky brakes. It also worked on one GS so far  :thumb:  It is applied directly to the rotors (and the face of the pads if you have them off).  Like I said before, not sure if it is available at retail stores.
