Looking to the Experts to help solve Carb/Fuel Issues

Background
I recently bought a 2006 GS500F and I'm currently in the process of trying to bring it back up to speed (it apparently sat in a garage for a while).

I drove the bike about 10 miles from where I bought it to my house, and it ran without issue. As soon as I got it home, I shut it down. A buddy of mine noticed the fuelcock was set to "prime" and adjusted it to "on". About 20 minutes later, I attempted to drive it around the block, and about halfway, the engine shut off. I tried every adjustment or measure to be taken to get it started again, but it wouldn't (leading to me walking the bike home).

Eventually, I recharged the battery, and now the bike will turn on and idle, but any throttle up to 3000 rpms will shut it down. And that is in neutral, 1st gear, 2nd gear, etc. The gears don't seem to have any impact on the issue.

After attempts to troubleshoot the issue alone and with people who know their way around bikes a bit more than I do, I decided, against my own instincts, to bring it into the local Suzuki Service Dept.

They're now claiming the "seats are frozen to the carbs", and they're trying but aren't sure if they can keep from needing to replace the entire carb system.

Any ideas, suggestions, or information would be greatly appreciated. I found this site after I had brought the bike in, and am now regretting that decision. But if I can be brought up to speed on what anyone suspects the issue is, I would be grateful.

oh no, do not take it to a dealership.

simple trace the fuel system through all of its components and inspect each part. looks like you have a bad petcock/ fuel valve, or tank vent.

also, is the gas old?

carbs can be cleaned and refurbished, no need to replace the whole unit.

OK I see this crap all the time ... can be unfrozen ... takes patience and cleaning.
BTW worst case is ... you replace the 1 part that can get unserviceable ... the float needle. $7-8 whatever ... X 2.

Adjust, synch, clean and re jet as always ...

Cool.

I appreciate your help; I'll look into the float needle, and ask them about that. I'll avoid the service dept. from now on, and handle this type of work myself. They've had it for 8 days now, and it's still not complete. Lesson learned.

The PO had the fuel valve on "prime" and it ran 10 miles.  And your buddy put it on "on".  Then it won't run. Clue right there.

For anyone who read the above situation and experienced the same issues, the verdict from the Service Dept. came in:

1. The seats were glued to the carbs, and as The Buddha mentioned, it took a great deal of time and patience (and my $$$) to free them.

2. The tri-nipple connector between the carbs was split/busted and needed replacement.

The bike has yet to be brought back out onto the road, but they claim that should do it. If there are any further issues (ie the problem hasn't been fixed), I'll add to this post with what it is.
