Quick Question About Oil

Machinations aside, is there oil inside the small, circular cavity (what's it called?) on the right side (opposite of counter sprocket) of the motor? I want to replace the cover but I don't want to tear it off and have oil come spewing out - mostly because I changed it less than 100mi ago.

I know it's a dumb question and something I should know...sadly I don't. Intuition says no oil, OCD says ask first.  :thumb:

The round cover on the right side, with SUZUKI logo, held on with 3 screws is clean. You can take it off.
The timing pickup is under there.

(Left side with logo is full of oil.)

FYI: If you do need to take something off and drain the oil, put it into a VERY CLEAN container and you can put it back in.

Yeah, I guess I didn't think of that but still, I don't want to deal with that! Plus a new gasket? No thanks. :p

Also, are you purposefully being cryptic? LOL Let's put it this way...the cover that goes in the space on the cover I'm trying to sell! Hahaha!

I see nothing cryptic. The round cover on the right hand side has No Oil. The round cover on the left hand side does have oil. Nothing cryptic there.  :dunno_black:

Oil can actually come out of there........... If the seal behind the rotor is gone.

Considering the bike only has 11k miles and there's zero rust or corrosion on the bike, anywhere, I think it'll be okay. :P

Also, I don't think I'll be laying my bike down, thanks anyway! hahaha! Remember, you gotta keep the shiny side up!

Rust / corrosion has nothing to do with it. Its the seal that surrounds the timing cap. As the end of the crank spins, it can gradually wear out that seal. It appears as a couple misc drops at first, then it gets worse.

Rubber seals are one place where low miles and age can harmful.  The rubber dries out with age and lack of use.  And while engines have minute clearances between parts, sitting unused allows parts to settle which distorts seals.  We get brand new cars that develop rear main seal leaks from sitting on the lot unsold for long periods of time.  The crank settle to the lowest part of the bearing which messes up the seal.

Laying the bike on its side does not mean dropping it   :laugh:  I've replaced lots of side case gaskets and clutches without draining the oil by leaning the bike up against a porch column or tree.  Just put a pillow or blanket on the tank so it doesn't get damaged   :thumb:
