The sound of the air going by my helmet muffled by earplugs. The bass of my engine. My own thoughts. Whatever song is stuck on repeat in my head.

If I want to hear music music I'll take my car - or - buy a Gold Wing or BMW R1200RT

I wouldn't be able to hear any music because the voices in my head talk too loud  :cookoo:

I find music is helpful in allowing my mind to focus rather than wander. To each their own, right? :)

I listen to CCM on low though. I have speakers in the helmet anything in your ear canal (even ear plugs) is illegal  here.

Not to harp on about.... nah, screw it, YES, to Harp on about it...

The idea of being able to  Focus better while having music blaring in your ears is inaccurate. What it is is sensory bombardment. The greater the sensory input the less able you are to carry out rational independent conscious thought. Music blaring into your ears makes you less able to think clearly and focus. This applies to all people. It is One of many tools in the Brainwashing arsenal. And when I say "brainwashing" I know you immediately think "strapped to a chair and zapped and etc.," But that is NOT brainwashing. That is brainwashing for the movies. Reality and movies are different.

Yes, brainwashing entails others things too. I won't go into them here cause they are Not relevant (except to say, unless you have studied the techniques and know what they are you most likely have no idea when they are being used on you). But what is relevant is that aural bombardment is a distraction and no-one is immune to it - end of story. The only way to not fall victim to it is to avoid it. And some proof of its dangers is this recent study showing an Increase in death due to wearing earphones and listening to mp3 players...

Listen up: wearing headphones can endanger life, study finds

"studies have shown that people wearing headphones – or who are distracted because they are talking on a mobile phone – can be affected by "inattentional blindness", a reduction in attention to external stimuli that has also been dubbed "iPod oblivion". This can result, for example, in people paying less attention to traffic"

I'm not saying the music played on the radio is brainwashing. Aural bombardment prevents your ability to consciously think for yourself.

Thanks

I've never said it helps me focus. It does however keep me from getting off the bike and kicking a door panel in. For me having calming positve music at low levels relaxs me. I live in the #46 worse commute in the country and when I-4 becoems a parking lot I need all of the relaxation I can get.

No word of a lie. Guy I used to work with covered his hard hat in tin foil and put 2 antennae on it to stop aliens talkin to him. this is a guy who kept a medieval battle axe in the trunk of his car for "just in case" and paddled up and down the river on his kayak with a pirate flag pinned to the back. He was a nut job.

Kijona

First of all, I listen to my music at very low levels. Secondly, what I listen to is calming and relaxing.

I'm not blaring death metal into my ears while I ride - I'm usually listening to instrumentals or electronic music.

Everyone is different. For me, I find myself not focusing on riding and instead focusing on other things if I'm not listening to music. This applies to longer rides - shorter rides around town are done with no music or earplugs for obvious reasons.

I don't know how my Dolphin photo got put up LOL. It was supposed to be the article naming the 75 worse cities. Football on the brain I guess!

Although the Patsies are going to the Super Bowl. I hate them. I like the Dolphin's and who every plays the gheytriots!

Mary
