Okay, my main riding gloves have been a pair of Joe Rocket GPX 2.0s.  I love them, but the full gauntlets are a pain to get on, especially when I'm just trying to ride back and forth to school.  Right now I'm considering these options:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/24488/ITEM/Joe-Rocket-Velocity-Gloves.aspx

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/35050/ITEM/Cortech-DX-2-Gloves.aspx

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/32407/ITEM/Speed-and-Strength-Off-the-Chain-Gloves.aspx

Any other recommendations?  I'd like to order them from MSSS, as I'm already ordering several other items, and I have a coupon.  I'm looking to order in the next day or so, so the sooner, the better.

Thanks!

All the ones you posted look like dirt bike gloves. They don't look like they offer much protection. Me personally, I would go with a perforated leather pair with some armour like these -

But these look ok off of the same site and are close to your budget-

They're your hands but I am not gonna recommend you get the ones you posted. Spend the little extra for better protection. You will be wishing you had it as you are sliding down the road using your palm as a brake.

Check out RST gloves. I've got a pair and love them.

I got a pair too but I think they're an Aussie brand or is that M2R?

Looks like I'm just going to have to pony up the extra cash.   :dunno_black:

Anyone interested in some (virtually) brand new JR GPX 2.0s size medium?  Lol.  Great glove, but I really don't see myself wearing a full gauntlet all the time, especially considering I like to tuck my gloves inside my jacket.

Got a couple more options:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/24443/ITEM/Joe-Rocket-Phoenix-4-0-Gloves.aspx

I was initially drawn to the JRs, but those Teknics are looking better and better the more I look at them.

Keep your guantlets for cooler weather or rain.

Be thankful you don't have to pay the prices us Aussies have to pay for gear. Decent leather gloves will set you back $100+ here

I really like that the Teknics have a lot of goatskin (upper and palm) and kevlar lined palms as well.

I really like these too, but I'm already stretching my price range.  Maybe I can work it out so I can get free shipping and come out better off.   :icon_mrgreen:

(Nearly identical to the ones posted earlier, just not perforated.  I think I'd be able to get a little more use out of those than the perforated ones.)

I'll more than likely be keeping them.  They're not great in the cold, but I'm sure if I used a thin liner in them they'd do better.  Really, really comfortable.  I've been super satisfied with them, I'd just like something a little easier to get on/off, and with better dexterity.  The GPXs are so thick at the fingertips that I find myself having to put my helmet on first instead of last as I'd prefer, simply because I can't get to the chin strap.

I wear short gloves too, but they're just my old gauntlet gloves with the gauntlets cut off haha. The padding/foam in the gaunlets dried out and got hard. Probably a sign they should just be replaced all together.

One thing to watch on short-cuff gloves is the use of nylon between the fingers... I saw some pics here of gloves with that stuff that had twisted around in a fall... hands were all torn up where the nylon had let go around the fingers. I bought a pair of these before seeing the pics and have been looking for a replacement since.

Don't know why leathers cost so much over there... you've got enough kangaroos running around to skin, right?  :)

My winter gloves are a simple pair of thickish black leather gloves large enough to accept a liner. I think I paid $20 for them at either a farm and fleet type business or an army surplus store. Liners are $1/pr brown cloth. Point is, your best source for short gloves might be something meant for work, rather than riding.

Anybody here tried expensive gloves before? I've been burned twice now by Alpinestars that lack quality material and finishing. I'm thinking of trying Dainese.

What I'm really asking is: I ride everyday and safety, comfort and long term durability are some things I'm willing to pay a little extra for. In your collective experience, when have you seen expensive brands being worth it?

also has good padding in the palms and near the wrist which saved me from rash in my wipe last year.

Glove shopping is best done in person, where all of the physical attributes of the glove can be matched to your hand. I picked up these on sale last year:

the street version of the DX dirt gloves. Pliable leather palm (reinforcments where the throttle sits), and first 2 fingers have grippy texture on them. They have the neoprene between the fingers to keep you cool, and I'm not worried about crashing and mangling them, because they fit...like a glove...  :icon_lol:

Errr.. you're not complaining about the heat.. you're just complaining about "getting them on" ???

My advice: get another "full gauntlet" pair, that you find easier to put on.

That's also in addition to the heat.  I could survive wearing them, but anything above 85 and I imagine I'll melt.  And here in south GA it will be well over that for 6 months or so.

There's an expression, "Don't borrow trouble".
IE: Dont spend money on something trivial that "might" be a problem. wait until you know for sure.
Keep in mind that well insulated gloves (as mc gloves should be), should keep your hand heat inside, in winter, but also keep air heat OUT, in summer, for a short time.
When you're up to speed, the wind chill should keep you comfy. So you only have to worry about stop light time, really.
And during the summer months... cycle shops around you are more likely to have a wider variety of vented gloves for you to try on.

I'm 99% sure that they will be to hot.  It's been in the 70s this week and they're quite warm.  I'm hot natured as it is, and if you combine that with the humidity, I end up sweating profusely in my gloves.
