Hi guys! My names Matt and I live in Toronto, ON. I'm new to the forums and was wondering if you guys could offer some advice/help to a noob lol
My brother gave me his 05 gs500f and I decided to do some work on it. Everything works well but the fairings are all beatup/cracked. I was thinking of doing a gs500e conversion but was wondering how I could integrate the parking light into the new assembly because I'm assuming I wouldn't be able to pass a safety inspection without everything working.
OR would I just be better off leaving it the way it is? The condition of the fairings isn't a part of the safety inspection, right?

You need to check local laws regarding the parking light. It may not be required.
You can get a round headlight or other shape with a parking light in it - so you can be legal if it is required.
See?

Or you could just use the F headlight on the naked GS even if it is to pass the safety inspection.

Wow that was fast!
Would you happen to know if the stock gs500e headlight assemblies come with the parking light like the one in that pic adidasguy?
Twisted: I actually didn't think of that lol
Thanks for the help guys

Depends where the GS is sold. Australian GS's do not have the park light but I am pretty sure all the USA and Euro ones do.

If you can find a headlight from an earlier (2000-2005)  Ducati Monster it should fit and have the park light in it. You might have swap the connector over from the GS light though is the only thing.

What year is it? If it is an early model it would have but the later do not.

All GS500's have a PARK position for the key. It turns on the tail light in all models.
Later the "F" models added the park light. European bikes may have had it in the "E" but not sure. The later naked "F" models sold in Europe probably had it. Someone from the UK or Germany could verify that.
I do not recall seeing that the DOT requires it in the US.
I change headlights on my "E" bikes because I think it is nice and most old headlights are kind of rusty do I do that when I put on a new one.

Bikes without a front park light have an unused brown wire in the headlight bucket. That's for a parking light.

Mine has the bulb (torch bulb buy the look of it without taking it out) It comes on when in park.
I did think it was a bit odd to have it on an 89 model in Aus but it is not the first time I have owned a bike with it.

Not mine. 2004 GS goes from Lock>Off>On

The park position is just past the lock position.
But I also have the light switch on the throttle side with off>park>lights

ohgood

I've never seen an E headlight (usa) with the parking light.

Usa E + park = tail light is on, only.
