So, like everyone else, to me the dual sport mud flap aesthetics were visually displeasing on a sport bike to say the least. so i decided to do away with it as much as possible, leaving the small storage area intact. could not find my mini hacksaw so a serrated edge knife did the trick, much better than i expected. i also decided to get rid of the square box called a tail light as well. two uglys in one shot. not sure where the tail light came from (it came with my box of parts, i purchased this bike as a basket case) but it looked far better than the stock one. The mounts for the stock light and the new one had the right spacing and pigtail (which i had to extend). the new light was physically wider so it would not fit in the stock location. So i used spacers to push it out and make it fit snug against the plastics. i'm not happy with the way it looks so in the future i will trim the plastics to make it sit further in.
before cutting the fender i realized i would be chopping turn signal mounts as well. so i decided to integrate them into the tail light. not sure if i like it or not, the stalks are kinda long. this part was really simple, two holes in lens, two holes in the base for the wires, plumb it all in. Let me know what you guys think. took me about an hour and a half total.

ok, a quick ebay search reveals this is the newer style gs tail light.

It's...interesting.  Not really my style.  I applaud your ingenuity though.

Thanks. Not really 100% sure if I like it or not.. Would have much rather had a real integrated tail light with leds

adidasguy

You did do a good job and you kept it 100% road legal.

Not a fan of integrated: especially when being behind one. You can't tell which way they're going to turn. Plus the integrated turn signal diminishes the brake light when it is blinking. WTF?> Are they stopping, signalling something or what?

Keep the turn signals separate from the brake light - it helps the drivers behind you.

Thanks adidas. I really think it would look better with shorter stalks. It kinda reminds me of old vhf tv antennas. Overall, to me, it looks far better than stock.

Nice work man, very ingenious idea with the indicators. Don't  know how heavy they are, I would be a bit worried about them cracking the lens though? You guys are so lucky you can use such small number plates (I'm assuming it's legal) here in SA our plates are so big it makes any attempt to clean up the back end kinda futile.

Thanks. The lens is actually quite durable, I expected my drill bit to fly through, and the leds are very lightweight. I live down a quarter mile sandy road with washboard bumps and they seem to be doing well thus far.

The fender chop and light look good. Although I don't really like the turn signals attached to the tail light. The concept is good, and you did a great job It just looks a little odd to me. If you trim the plastics and move it all in I think that would really clean up the look. +1 for not going integrated. My friend has one on his 07F and when following him a few car lengths back its hard to see which way he is turning. I actually look past him and see where the stock front turn signals light the road up since they are brighter and farther apart. Also I like the black and green them of you bike, It looks pretty mean.

Q:Why did they decide to call it the "Harley Owners Group?"
A:Because the term "Special Ed" was already taken.
