I own a 1993 GS500E, yesterday, to my surprise, the bike started with ease. Today on the other hand I walk out to warm it up to change the oil and unfortunately she won't start, won't even turn over.

Last season I:

  • Changed spark plugs and the wires
did a bit of fuel line work

  • This season (past few days):
    replaced fuel line
    Replaced battery
    removed tank, patched some holes.

The battery was used two days ago to start it, and today to try and start it..that's it. It sat in my garage for three weeks, around 35-50 degrees, I am charging it now, hope that is the only problem.
Alright so,

Now the bike won't even turn over, maybe once, then just a clicking (the starter solenoid?) This is driving me nuts, the battery is on a charger now, anything else I should try while it's charging?

Battery.

Are you sure you didn't leave the key in PARK and drain the battery?

Had the same thing happen on my 07. Went to start it and nothing. Battery went from completely fine to dead.

I'd check the battery. You need to load test it - mine was showing 13v but as soon as any form of load was applied it dropped to <1v.

It needed a charge, don't really know why.  Hope there isn't any sort of draw on it constantly going.

We shall see tomorrow.

Thank you everyone

As I said...you need to test the battery. Take the bike to any Autozone or Advance Auto and they can load test it for you. Running with a faulty battery can cause the bike to do really weird stuff.

Mine did the exact same thing over the weekend. Had a charge, I just charged it, but no go and clicking. Let me know what you discover and I'll do the same when I check it out over the weekend. I'm guessing it's the battery. (and hoping that's all it is)

If it starts easily today I'll insure/register it then take it to autozone.
