My pops test rode a friends Sportster(the smaller one, 883 maybe?) He hated it. Wanted to ride, but let it site in the driveway more because the dislike.  If he would have rode the 1200 i think it might have liked it more.

He went and picked up a honda vtx 1300cc and is in love with it!

Can somebody explain how that works? I would think with 1200cc you would have much more torque and hp than a 650. I'm also not exactly a mechanic.. :dunno_white:

. Betcha if you could get a xl to spin at 7krpm and breath, it'd produce a boatload of power.

I've heard the same thing a bunch of times but never rode a cruiser yet.

One funny thing I heard, that some cant even keep up with a GS500.

but of course, thats not what they are built for (cruisers)

I can tell you right now, that that bike is MUCH faster off the line than the GS, with a lot less effort. Around corners though, nope.

My 05 xl made 92 hp at 6800rpms.   Not a stock motor of course...

What did you do? Cams, springs, exhaust and intake?

A fair amount of head porting, high compression, mikuni carb, tc88 ignition w/ custom map cams and a good 2 - 1 exhaust..   I got more I could do to the heads to get a little more out of it.

they run out of power as the rpm's rise, and they don't rise far.

As far as the power difference between the Harler and the SV650, there are a lot of factors at play.  Harley is old technology just like the GS; air cooled and 2 valves per cylinder.  And since it does not have over head cams it can not be reved very high.

My Harley of choice:  Sportster XR1200

i rode one of these last weekend at the gymkhana practice. it was different (than my single or i-4), not in a bad way, just felt like it lost it's balance shaft, or something. nice low power, but poor balance. anyway, not my speed.

this on the other hand... oh my goodness....

is a truly amazing machine

my buddy kevin trying it out...

i never thought i'd say that buying a ducati makes sense, until i realized that the antiquated HD mentioned in this thread was $3500 MORE, and a gixxer was almost $6500 MORE, than this fine fine machine.

pulls like a raped ape, any gear. alllllllll the way and then some.

Yes and quite comfortable to sit on. Put a set of aftermarket cans on it and the grin gets even wider. The Monster is a great street bike. Not that I am biased in any way at all  :flipoff:

Gixxer was $6500 more? The liter bike is going for $13,800 MSRP.  the Duke 1100 is $12,000.

Looks like they haven't bothered to fix any of the potholes up through there yet since the vid was uploaded 2 days ago. He really gets that lil monster leant over in some of them corners.

He has some other videos of "Blasting" through there. Scraping a few things as he goes. I don't think that road is worth that kind of lean due to unexpected gravel.
