i see you have had clutch cover off .Did you disturb the timing roter,it is set in its correct posistion when you turn it and feel it drop into its slot  .

yep made sure of that, i did replace the bolt with a allen head one tho original was almost stripped from PO.

I ordered the boots, as i seem to remember that the one with the plug being black had a crack in it by the bolt. it was the other pipe that was hot from before, left bad plug, right red pipe. going to get some started fluid on way home in morning.
