Proud new GS500E owner in Baltimore, MD

Hello all,

This past weekend I bought a 1995 GS500E and couldn't be happier!  I've been lurking on these boards and reading all over gstwins.com to learn as much as I can before getting the bike.  After finding a great deal last week I finally took the plunge and bought it on Saturday.   Thought I'd introduce myself now that I can start contributing to the boards....

This is my first motorcycle, though I own and ride a 1963 Vespa GS160 scooter that is beautiful fun (when it is running).  I've been wanting to get a real motorcycle for quite some time.  I initially wanted to get something vintage like the Vespa but after taking consideration of just how much of a pain that could be I decided to take a more practical route.  The GS500 seemed like the best balance of fun, dependability, and coolness so here I am...

About me:  I'm a 29 year old guy living juuuust outside Baltimore city.  After working as a professional boat captain for many years, I decided to hang up the adventure and started working in IT.  This worked out great for the last several years but it's not very fulfilling lately and has gotten pretty boring so I returned to school and now am going to be working in CAD design / engineering starting next Tuesday.  I'm hoping that buying the GS will jumpstart that sense of adventure that I've been missing lately.

Riding the GS500 is very different from being on my Vespa so I'm starting slow and taking baby steps to ensure I keep myself safe.  I'd love to get to know some riders in and around Baltimore.  Later in the season, once I've gotten my confidence up, I'd be great to meed up for some rides...

My bike has some carb issues that I'm going to be tackling later this week, a major part of the reason I got such a good deal, so I'll likely be on here quite a bit in the near future looking for advice.  Thanks in advance to everyone btw, reading the archives here has been extremely helpful already.
