For those of you who didn't hear on reddit. They totaled the bike about a week and a half ago.
(http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=60082.0) thats the link to the original post here

I had some fun with it before they took it though

In the end i kinda traded up and bought this with the insurance money a few days ago.
Only problem is i'm going from a strong and helpful community to one that's... well there were 125 (according to the guy i bought it from) of this color imported to the us in this model year so a bit smaller. And the bike's a bit more difficult to work on. Thanks everyone for a great community and all the help when i was working on my old gs (if anyone finds my old bike at an auction or something let me know (i cant own it but i'd still like to keep in touch) it's in great condition, new oil, new fluids, big back tire, and the forks are straight as far as i could tell ( i rode it 300 miles after the accident))

(somepeople like it some hate it) i would have preferred red but i'm still in love with this bike, it's noisy. Loud pipes, open dry clutch gives that toolbox in the dryer sound and that steel trellis just get's me every time i walk by it (still have to get insurance/plate and i've got finals this week so i'm super busy)

Well, that's different!  Congrats on a unique ride! :D

That Ducati is very nice. Glad you walked away without any major injuries.
I cant stop watching that GIF of that F jumping.

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Shaddow

Couldn't find a bigger truck to carry the bike?

Nice trade up.

They'd have given you the totaled bike for 15% of its insurance rate. You could have fixed it (didn't look like anything was even wrong with it) and sold it for 75% of its insurance value ... but well ... it is a bit more work.
Cool.

The bike was less then 9 years old and there's some stupid law in illinois that says if any insurance company totals it i can never own it again.... So they HAD to take it... i got a check for 2628.17 though so i guess that's alright even though i put a lot of time into that bike and like 500 bucks in parts i still only bought it for 1500 so it's break even.

If i ever get around to mixing the video i took of jumping the bike i'll be sure to post it here, the gif came from some random kid that decided to record but i have some other better cameras that were recording as well

Maybe a little harder to work on if you intend to check the valves and belts yourself but oil changes will be easier than the GS. Valves should be checked every 12,000kms. The belts should be done every 20,000kms or 2 years what ever comes first. You won't have to buy genuine as there is a company called Exactfit (google 'em) that make after market ones for much less than OEM. Actually try and get aftermarket filters too as OEM are ridiculously priced. HiFlo make a pretty decently priced one. You will need to get yourself a set of metric hex head T handle spanners or sockets. The Ducs have two oil filters, one that is located under the sump much like a cars and a screen one that you will need a 14mm hex head for. This should be checked every 2nd oil change. Since the SS's have the same 2 valve engine as most Monsters the Ducati Monster forum could help you out a fair bit.

Keep the oil and belts up to it and it will be just as reliable as any Jap bike.  :thumb:

Luckily(i would say) the guy i bought it from was the only owner. So that means many things were taken care of well like valves. A few things like the fluids for brakes and the clutch were never touched...

He gave me the ORIGINAL service manual from ducati as well as a copy of it, (that happens to be in italian and some english) so i know the intervals for service and most everything else although the biggest problem i've run into is the imploding tank issue they have which i've been trying to trouble shoot but mainly just f%$king up more (http://www.ducati.ms/forums/57-supersport/135588-my-tank-about-implode-explode.html)

I bought the k&n oil filter since it's got a nice nut on the bottom for removing it

Wow,  Stupid law!  I don't think that law would stand up to a constitutional challenge....just sayin.  That's like saying if you got fired from the grocery store, you can't ever work at a grocery store again.  It makes no sense. :cookoo:

The K&N filter is just the HiFlo filter rebadged and a nut welded on it  :thumb:

I didn't realize they had problems with the metal tanks. I know the later model ducs had swelling issues with ethanol fuel and the plastic tanks.

The filter looks impossible to get off without a nut. it's like recessed to the point it sticks out but you cant get your fingers on it
Yeah if something get's pinched like a hose they can implode their tanks. which almost happened to me after getting it home. i wanted to see how much gas had been used.. and well.... i couldnt get the tank open it was suctioned on there so hard. i'm lucky it didnt go pop. ( i think it may have at some point the color of the tank is SLIGHTLy darker then the rest of the bike
