Fitting '05 GSXR rear sets

I posted this earlier in "what have you done to your bike today" and was asked for a how to thread. Hope you find it useful

I made up adapter plates to fit '05 GSXR rear sets to my GS500. FINALLY I got them right after 3 tries.
The plates move the peg position 2" back and 1" up from stock and clear the centre stand! I made the plates from 10mm aluminium, the same as the Gimbal rear sets I had fitted previously.

The Gimbal rear sets move the pegs 4" back and 2" up and I found them too aggressive for the street.
Sitting on the bike it feels great, much more comfortable for my 6'2" hight with the Suburban Machinery sv650 bars.
With a break in the rain I managed to take it for a ride this afternoon and couldn't be happier

The rear sets fit with no modification other than an extended extended gear shift linkage. The GSXR one is too short.
My local bike wrecker/breaker was kind enough to let me rummage through their parts till I found one. I also needed some LH and RH M6 stainless threaded rod to suit the new linkage.

I have no CAD skills so I re-drew the digram a bit neater than my original

Good job indeed. I have been thinking of doing something similar. Can you be more specific about what bike the rearsets you used are off of? A 600, 750, or a 1000 GSXR? Assuming that they use different rearsets...

What rear case is that? How much did it cost? I need something like this for a 6 hour trip coming up in a couple months and that looks perfect! Any pros/cons you can think of other than the obvious?

Looks like an old GIVI case I used to have but not sure. 

I myself currently have a GIVI e55 case on my gs500f, and love it.

EDIT: change of plans, they've sent me on the road. I've got the rough layout drafted. i'll put it into 3d and then finish annotation and dimensioning

Mine are GSXR 600 rear sets. Same as 750 but I think the 1k's are different. Can anyone confirm?

I got a spare second today to finish off mine, my imperial architectural desktop autocad wasn't liking metric or engineering scales! haha so i just got the dimensional plan as close to 1:1 and left it NTS.

Uploaded my pdf's to google docs;

Did this with 1 eye on it and the other on work, let me know if you see any errors!

Nice 2D drawing mate If I can make a suggestion, I made the mount holes 8.1mm, I think 9.0mm is a little too loose. Also you can step down to a 6.7mm pilot hole for the 8x1.25mm threads. It gives a sharper thread in aluminium

Thought that I would add if anyone needs a source of left hand thread stainless rod to make up a shifter linkage I used a cable swag terminal and cut off the threaded portion. eBay or a shipwright would sell them.

I just used the defaults in SW.  I did think 8.1mm was a little tight; stack up a couple of .05mm tolerances and you are forcing things.

Excellent idea for the left hand thread parts. 

Here is what I have for an extension:

6mm threaded boss and threaded hole.  Don't use aluminum!

This is the right side Ive been working on. I took it all apart, bead blasted it, powder coated it and got it installed. That is a GSXR 1100 rear set. It is actually mounted on an original GS500 rear set mount or plate

I know this is an old thread but I will probably be getting a set of these made up some time in the near future. If anyone else would like some would be happy to get a few more made and post them out.

buckaroo sent me a PM which sparked me to write an update to this thread.

The GSXR rear set brackets as documented work great with more aggressive bars like the Suburban Machinery SM1's.
I've since changed to OEM Euro 'Type 1' clip-on's and found I needed to change the peg position to suit.

My latest incarnation lowers the peg position about 1/2" from stock, or 1" drop compared to the tall OEM rubber pegs.

Use the upper mounting hole for both the bracket and rear set's, keep the relative angles and hole spacing the same as the posted diagram.
6mm plate is perfectly adequate for these shorted brackets. A longer upper bolt will be required.
